No no, I like renewables. 100% think its a thing.

But not a primary power source, more a supplemental.

And yes, everytime I start talking nuclear, someone asks me if I saw the Chernobyl documentary. Like nuclear power hasn't advanced since the 80s.
That and the whole design of that kind of reactor had some defects. Scramming the reactor caused it to briefly spike in output, lack of real secondary containment, use of water as a moderator, the reactor could actually act as 2 or 3 separate reactors (localized hotpots). The scram issue they found at a previous reactor in the 70s (Lennongrad?) but the report was buried.

Yes, solar all the roofs, but we need somewhere to store the excess power too.

That is already being done at the massive solar farms. There are HUGE battery banks (?) that store the power so it can be drawn on even at night. Commanche Energy has a massive farm just south of Pueblo, CO Commanche Solar so the holding technology is there but it has to be on a very massive scale if every house is a solar collector.

I hate it when someone I work with, who has no intention of working on their own vehicle, and no idea what the vehicle even is, asks me if I think a price from a garage for a repair is reasonable.

Look, you either fix it yourself or you pay what the shop asks and don't whine. It's that damn simple.

First you say something like
"damn that sounds really high to me."

then they say something like
"I thought so too, do you think you could take a look at it?"

I mean, I have a list of shops around here that are reasonable and do good work, and a list that I would never consider bringing my vehicle to. So being someone with that info, I can see someone asking my opinion, without the expectation that I help them work on it.

I usually just say 'Take it to X shop, they've always been good', and leave it at that.

The correct response is "that sounds about right."

And if they say "my vehicle is doing *x*", my response is "you should really take that to a shop and have it checked out."
