We bought a 3" foam topper, and go for firm Ikea mattresses. The mattresses are cheap to replace when they start failing, and the foam top gives us that little bit of padding.

Going back to the discussion of mattresses... We bought a nectar memory foam mattress about 3 years ago.
Absolutely the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.
I read that the key to the foam mattresses is that then need to basically be on a platform. So, we bought a new bed frame, and I put plywood under the mattress.
I 100% would buy another one.

This Zinus is my second and I've loved them both. The first one was too firm for my wife so she got a used Sleep number from a friend. It started leaking a few months after, the cost to replace the bladders was more then I was willing to pay so I found a guy online "airbed repairman" or something like that. They had some self fix kits that made it tolerable so it would only need to be pumped up every few days. Either way I hated the ufcking thing and as soon as she started to complain I dumped it and got another Zinus. This one is medium firm and we are both happy and sleep very well.

Have had an amazon memory foam mattress for the last 2 years. Has been good. Rotate it regularly and it hasn't punched out yet.
