This weekends project for mothers day. My sister and I split the cost of replacing the stock garbage radio in my mom's Subaru with a top shelf Pioneer that has wireless CarPlay. That way she can just use the radio for nav and doesn't have to ufck with having her phone on the dash and messing with it. Also makes the backup camera usable by going from a 3" screen to a full 7" screen.
Things have come a long way. On this car there's a module made by iDataLink that makes everything plug and play. No soldering. No guessing. Pull old shiat, install new shiat. It connects to the OBD port and does all kinds of vehicle stuff (including TPMS, diags, etc). Pretty ufcking cool.
Of course, me, not one to leave well enough alone... I'm also going to install a hardwired USB connection in the dash so that there's no more cigarette port charger needed. Should be a fun project.
