Dunno, lounging and drinking with friends is pretty fun ;) you could always run camera instead of wheeling ;)

Sucks that you can't make it though...take care of yourself and get better!

Bummer man, good luck with whatever you have to do to get that fixed.

Thanks, at least on the positive side I now have more time to get things done to the X for when my back decides it doesn't hate me.

Thanks, hopefully I can make it out if this happens again next year.

so, here's some thoughts on a small event that we could do, if everyone was up for it....
it **might** end up being muddy as hell, but, it's a big maybe, it'll depend highly on the weather...if we've got enough people with winches, it shouldn't be an issue at all

the deal is, the canadian river has a pair of bridges that're about 30 miles apart, we could easily do the bridge to bridge run, and either come back through the riverbed or come back highway and back out to the campsite...

I'd say if we rolled out Saturday morning after breakfast, I'd hazard to bet we could do that and still have plenty of time for rocks and trails...

what do ya'll think?

I say have you ran it before? Would two wheel drive make it? Are there mesquite? And how many winches are available? What is the terrain like?

Have I done it: when it was dry, yes, I've made it very fast, it's a dry riverbed....if you run into water or mud holes is when it becomes a bit more challenging.

2WD: would make it if dry, not if wet, I don't know how many bypasses there are, because the day I ran it, I didn't find **ANY** water holes, so, I never got out of the riverbed, and TBH, never dropped below 45mph in 2HI

mesquite: uh.....see the above comment about the one time I've made the run....I was hauling @'s and testing my suspension out one hop at a time. why're you worried about mesquite though?

terrain: it's a riverbed....so....sandy...maybe wet and muddy, no way to tell until you hit it.

how many winches: fantastic question, I won't have one, my neighbor will, but, he'll prefer to strap up and pull that way, and save wear on the winch. I don't know who else is coming with a winch. Maybe Sean will get a winch on his 1st gen and bring the 2nd gen too, so we'll have a couple there ;)

if you're chimed in to come, would you please post up whether or not you're winched or not?

I'm questioning the mesquite because I just spent over a grand on new tires :)

Really I'd be satisfied just wheeling and hanging out but that's one mans opinion. If it's rained recently I'd be happy to test out the crossing but I don't think we should run the risk of getting too far in. I'll let someone else chime in.

I would be down for the river bed, I have a winch also, with a few straps. I will be by myself so I can haul 1 person down it. I'm kinda up for anything. Hopefully I will have my replacement parts in by then so just in case I break somthing.

Dude, if you break something here, you are using WAY too much gas pedal. ;) just sayin...

Ya'll keep in mind, my rig is mostly stock, and there's very little that I can't do out there...those of you with offroad bumpers are going to be even better off than me on most stuff.

The only spot out there that I've been absolutely stuck in that I couldn't have gotten out of backward, any rig no matter how bad would have been stuck, and very little effort got me free there...

Mac, you just need to get some sliders then you'll almost be a match for my rig....so far I think there's one rig that'll seriously put mine to shame, everyone else I hope to be able to keep up with....

And even metzican, I **might** be able to keep up with since I've got a tweaked motor ;)

When I say break something, I mean going through a river bead you never know. Definitely if its not the nicest conditions. Its a lot easier to break something if you can't see whats there.

^^^ I must of miss understood you when you where talking about this river bed. The moment I see winches being brought up this means to me the possibility of mud with a river bed.

Nah, honestly you're probably picturing correctly, my rule of thumb is if recovery is right there with you, why risk breaking just to show off...I rarely have the funds to throw around to fix stuff if I break something being dumb, so, I just don't break things ;)

I'll be bringing one folding table.

My wife is concerned about con solo if he's not walking "toddling" at this point because he can't very well crawl all over the place....

From a local offroading forum here in NM:

"Well Dustin (Broketoy) convinced me that the Canadian River is the place to be for the last weekend in Feb. Boy was he right. I have NEVER seen as many broken parts in 1 weekend ever. If you love to laugh and have a good time with rednecks this IS the place to be. I saw everything from 100k rigs to 500 dollars junk getting beat on. I would say on Saturday night there were a few Thousand...yes Thousand people out there having redneck fun. We talked to one officer and he said this group is small, when they have the actual event he said there is about 10-15 thousand people out there....pure CRAZY!"

huh.

Yup, "sand drags" is an annual drunken idiot festival, where people do stupid ish to their rigs until they either succeed or break. Don't worry, we won't be breaking, unless you're one of those "I can do anything" types, then I'll point you at one of many "climb or roll" hills and grab my camera.

I will PROBABLY have an Internet connection out there for those who absolutely must have it if it'll get service at camp, and I'll bring my laptop for photo-loading so I can pull a collection and make a site with a recap and pics for the event for all of the peeps that aren't "cool enough to join us" can see what they missed out on ;)

Well I just got crappy news. My wife has been needing some dental surgery and the dentist finally called with an "earliest available time" which happens to be April 11th. My wife is in pain so she requested they quit jerking her around and move around a stupid teeth cleaning so she can get this done. If they can't or don't move her appointment it looks like that weekend and my whole damn birthday is shot, oh and my wallet.

well that's no good.....I got bad news today too....both of the surplus auction tents I've been watching and waiting for are going for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over what I can afford to spend on them...I've got $200 in amazon gift cards coming in the next few days, so now I'm looking there for a tent that'll effectively be "free" to me (since it's not coming out of the bank account)

I find one, and this is part of one of the reviews:
Assembly, I have to say, for a tent this size, is cake. Now like I said above, I'm 6-foot-2, and I was able to put this tent together solo without any trouble at all. In fact, with the exception of the rain fly, a midget with a step-ladder could solo-assemble this tent. (Take a moment and relish that image for a second...)

at which point, it makes me proceed to laugh hard enough I woke all three dogs out of their sound sleep behind me, because suddenly, I get the mental image of having my wife (5'4") and the neighbor's wife (5'0") with a pair of step stools putting the tent up whilst I dig a fire pit ;)

5'0" is not exactly 'midget' class. Close, but not quite; another 2" and they she would achieve full blown 'Halfling' status (my wife is 5'0" too).

yes yes, I know, I didn't say that they were midgets, just the amusement of watching the two of em try to put the tent up with stepstools/stepladders ;)
