Rugged Rock Sliders....

Honestly, while they look good, but I would just cough up a bit extra to get a slider with brackets attached to it, because from what it looks like, you'll have to do these:

1) Finding a welder to weld them on so they'll charge you labor.
2) Getting it powdercoated which would require shopping around for a reputable shop or spend a good portion of your day sanding/acetone your sliders and getting it ready for paint if you decide to rattlecan it yourself.
3) I don't see anything about bolts coming with the brackets so may need to factor the possibilities of buying bolts/hardware.

Seems like ALOT of time on this than you would if you bought sliders with brackets already welded on which all you would have to do is slap them on the X with extra hand if you decided to buy it already powdercoated. Or little time compared to all above if you buy it bare with only thing to do is just clean and paint.

That's just my opinion.

Well I know a few friends that are welders. As far as bolts I have Fastenal local to get them. And the powder coating isn't something I am looking for. I planned on getting them bare, painting them white then, hot pink, then coating them in bedliner. This way when I hit rocks and such and it nicks the bedliner the Pink will show through to give it that SnickerDoodle Exclusive look. lol

The price is more in my range. I priced out a few other well known shops in the X community and they want almost $500 with shipping. I can grab these for just over $200 with shipping and then the bolts won't run to much. Welding cost me maybe a case of beer to a friend and then the paint which isn't expensive at all.

Sounds like you have pretty good connections around you with welders and paint so I would say in your case, it would work out better for you so go for it! And I'd like to see that multi-colored paint especially after you get it all scratched up! Sadly, my time is so limited that I wouldn't have time for all those so I would pay extra to have all those taken care of when I order it...wish there was more X's in my area lol.

Just a advice, since you're getting them bare, I would hit it with primer first, then white then hot pink then dip it to bedliner....primer protects the metal better and more coating over it will make it last long without rusts.

Hmm. The RR are actually straight weld on gussets so that's a bonus. No need to buy the bolts.

And yes the white would be my definition for primer lol.

I think i'll be buying these next week when i get paid. :lolz:

Post up some pic's if/when you get them. I like the idea of the color under the bed liner.

Doodle, like you these prices are the right range for my pocket as well. The 'X'tra work to get what I'd like is worth the time. Either I'll make my own or get these. My only question is, are they for a lifted or stocked height X?

:) I like putting the X'tra work into doing the mods on my X. I'm not a fan of just buying something because its easy and simple. It's more rewarding to me to actually put the effort into something to see the results. And saving $$ while doing so is awesome. lol This is why i parted together my BL instead of buying a kit for example.

Ya tryin' to make me look bad!?!?!? LOL just kidding :D

I remember all those times I've spent on my 2001, man, talk about hard work but it was most certainly rewarding, no doubt about that.

Are you sure that you want to get sliders that are straight weld on?

I plan on getting bolt on's, but that is also that could be just how I feel. It could be my opinion, but I like the bolt on..

Granted, I guess you could just drill holes in the brackets.. And not to dog RR products, but could you not get the brackets predrilled?

The only down side I see is that the bracket is "L" shaped. That suggests to me that it's designed to cup the frame. Meaning it's NOT designed for a lifted vehicle. If that's true, I would get my own bracket "plate", and drill the holes for a BL.

Good Look TKD! I'll have to give them a call and see before ordering. I don't mind the welding. I never plan on getting rid of my truck, once shes paid off this fall she's strictly my weekend/FUN vehicle and a I'll finally have a daily driver. I will never sell her due for the main fact that there are way to many memories and too much of my own sweat and blood poured into her. I couldn't just sell something that means to much to me. lol

Touche, I don't ever plan on selling my girl either, so I guess welding doesnt seem like that bad of an idea..

UPDATE:

Spoke to RR. They say the verticle of the bracket is tall enough to allow the gussett to be welded for a 2" BL which folks have done.

Now I guess I need to measure to know which length to order... Anyone know first? 58", 67" or 78".

Good looking out on the call too btw! And yes what is the length... for the ordering of the sliders that is?!

A very good friend is running a set of these on his fronty, they have held up extremely well considering what they get subjected to.

Corp 14ff rear, hp 3/4 ton danna 44 front, and 37s, they get used a lot. Bolt them on, weld them on, it does not make that much of a difference in the long run. Mine are bolted and welded on.

The only thing that you really want to do is to make that you have plenty of gussets.

Hahaha yikes....I better be on the lookout then! But I ain't skeered! So bring it on, Snickers!

For some reason, 58" screams out at me because I saw that somewhere, but that's only nearly 5 ft so I suggest you measure inner front wheel well to inner rear wheel well.

haha Be scurred!! Verry Verry Scurred!

58" does sound a bit too short.

-GraniteX- if the slider only has so many legs are the extra gussets long enough to reach where needed on the slider from the frame? Like are the extra legs? I'm confused. (insert blonde joke here)

If you look at a couple of sliders that are bolt on, you'll see that some of them except Hefty's are 3 legged. When I got my SW sliders for my 1st gen, it had 3 legs on it. More legs, the better strength if you ever should bounce on a rock. The welds will make it much more stronger.

Hmmmm...You just made me rethink the sliders now....seeing that Hefty's is 2 legged, while Shrockworks is 3 legged....thanks alot Snickers!....I was all confident with my decision on Hefty's til now...lol...back to the drawing board I go....lol ;)

I have a motto " if you can build it, you can over build it". I add gussets to anything that I can, any time that you have a butt weld (like where the legs of the sliders terminate into the plates that bolt to the frame), the gusset adds triangulation and greater surface area to the weld. It all adds to less deflection under load, and a stronger connection as a whole.

These will need to be cut up.. Seems like the X is 65" These have been brought up in CX before.. Some hate them because they said the tube is not thick enough..

Unless your going to be a rock crawler then Id say they are fine... 90% of the people on these forums will never put them to the test.. And for those that would put them to the test.. Im guessing they are building them :)

So they need to be cut because they are two inches too long, is that what you mean? I mean would 2 inches make that big of a difference? *insert funny joke here*

Not according to my wife Snickers.

Anyways, I like the idea of the pink underneath but then you will only see most of that under the sliders but still a kool idea. You may need to scrape up the side of them on purpose so the pink will pop out a little more.

Can't wait to see this done.

Ouch, so you'd like it 2 inches shorter!??!!? :D The thing is if you cut it 2 inches, you're kinda affecting the strength. I'd just say measure the rocker panel and you could have like one inch protrude out a bit beyond the wheel well but that would affect your tires if you're doing major stuffage or turning with the 33's. You could always get the short one and add extensions to it to make it long enough but at the same time, added strength. That's just my brainstorming idea.

I believe the reason most production sliders have 3 legs is because there are factory holes in the frame where the stock running boards bolted to.

The 3 locations each have 2 holes that have a blind nut welded into the frame, which is the ideal location to secure a bolt on slider.
