Removing the CAT

Has anyone ever removed the CAT? Mine has the annoying heatr shield on it rattling, and sooner, or later the CAT will go anyways. Rather than pay big money for a nice fancy one, I was contemplating cutting it out, and then putting a straight pipe in it. I don't have emission testing where I live, so I don't need to worry about that.

Several folks have removed it without setting off the CEL. I don't recall whether or not they had to spoof the downstream O₂ sensors. I wouldn't do it in California, but if you don't have have emissions inspections, you should be fine.

If you are thinking of going this route, consider installing a set of doug thorley headers, and add a set of CELs. The CEL eliminators work, and you would still retain the primary cats for emmissions.

I don't know about our trucks but we just had to replace my brothers cat converter on his f150 and the shop did it all for 250. Not to shabby and it keeps it legal

the cats I removed were a PITA... had to cut one of the studs and it happen to be in the most impossible place to get any type of cutting device into. Then again... i was unbolting them to remove them.

Blah, that's no fun at all!

This is what I've been pondering this evening.... Thorley headers, CEL Eliminators, removed Cat, with Magnaflow Cat-Back Exhaust. Sounds expensive enough.....:D

no problems that I have come across running them, I did a nismo cat back at the same time, and it felt like driving a new truck again,,, with smaller tires and no armor.
