ON A GEN1, Behind the rear plastic bumpettes there are sheet metal skirts, Is there anything attached to those skirts on the inside (frame side)? I don't have a vehicle to look at and a designer is asking questions for a drawing.

For the rear? Do you mean attached on the inside as in the inside of the cabin?

From the inside of the cabin, they're empty, except for the fresh air vent flaps.

I think he's asking if he can cut them off and cap them, correct? Yes he can, but he'll need to move that vent somewhere or you won't have air flow inside the cabin. You'll also have a hard time closing the doors due to being too sealed up.

NO...the frame side of the bumpette sheetmetal skirt. Anything between the skirt and the X's frame like the evap canister or something.

I didn't read the entire post...DUH. OK the vent needs to be moved. Thanks. I think we have a REAR Bumper design final drawing. I want to replace the plastic bumpettes with metal but needed a way to support them. Without the skirts, a support can be connected to frame stiffeners making a rear bumper, metal bumpettes, frame stiffener assembly (basically a big metal "U") that attaches with bolts to the vehicle's frame in a similar fasion as current aftermarket bumpers do now.

The Evap canister is located above the spare tire carrier, there's nothing else in there.

Tell him to be careful of the wiring by the frame. Other than that, have at it!
