Looking for input here from those of you who have DIY snorkels. My need (want) of a snorkel has recently been re-kindled (thanks Steeze) and I've had the snorkel head for a long time now, so why not just do it already?
I don't plan on going up the a-pillar at all, I already find the a-pillar & window vent visor combination to be a huge blind spot, something I don't want to add to at all. I want to keep the snorkel head as low and close to the fender as possible, but I'd like to still use the snorkel head I have. I'm pretty sure I've figured out just how to go about doing this.
I know a piece of 2" ABS (or PVC) pipe will fit right up to the normal inlet hole on the air box, which is cool and all, BUT I have an idea for a really easy way to open that hole up to 3", allowing me to use 3" pipe and elbows, and eliminate the need for a 2" to 3" adapter to attach the snorkel head.
Is there any reason I shouldn't do this? I realize that the air going into the engine is still going to be limited by the intake tube from the air box to the throttle body, and I'm not specifically trying to increase air flow by going to 3". If my idea plays out, I'd have very little room left for a 2" to 3" adapter piece, so if I can go all the way from the snorkel head to the intake box with 3", that would be perfect.
Is there actually enough room between the inner and outer fenders for a piece of 3" pipe as opposed to a piece of 2" pipe?
