Hello, just picked up a used 2010 SE 4x4 last weekend, and man am I having fun in this thing. It's only got some Falken all season highway tires on it, but even with those it still does really well in the mud/snow!

Once I wear these tires out, I want to go with a little bit larger tire and definitely with a tread design geared toward off road driving. Considering that the truck has 17's on it, what options do I have for tires?

Welcome to the nation.

I believe Macland started a thread in the 2nd gen wheels and tires section about what all you need to do to fit 33" tires on a stock X. It's a very simple process so it's worth a read. I'd link you to it but I'm on my phone and not quite sure how too.

Since you have 17" wheels you can fit a 285/70/17 tire (33"). Should be able to find most popular tires in that size.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. So I'm looking at the BFG T/A KO in a 285/70/17 size or the Dick Cepek crusher in the same size. If anyone is using these tires, what kind of mileage are you getting from them?

I just installed 285 75 16s on my wife's xterra..
You will need to do the melt mod.. But they ride great. Check out Goodyear Duratracs as well.. Aggressive looking AT that rides well..

Welcome! As drbandkgb said...we just put BFG's on mine...and besides the melt mod you have to do - which is SUPER easy...they're awesome!

Well, it was nice, until we took it out for day 2 of playing in the mud... :) It was a highway truck all it's life until we got it, but it's got plenty of mud caked up under it right now and we definitely gave the suspension a workout. I did give it a nice wash/wax today, though the undercarriage and wheel wells still have a bit of the ol' Paradise red dirt stain on the surface. I'd like to get it a couple inches higher in the suspension department and was thinking about the simple AAL/spacer kit so that the Wife would have stock-ish ride quality (it's her DD) but wasn't sure if I'd run in to any problems with the cheap lift. I'm guessing the melt mod would still be required with a 2" lift and 33" tires?

Thanks,
~Beau

Yup - We added 33" and had to do the melt mod...then we did a 2" suspension lift...other than some squawking from the factory struts being over extended (our theory) it needs nothing else and is a smooth ride ...she's my DD too :). After we put on the Bilstein struts we have nothing else will be needed.
