New guy from Iowa

Hey everyone! This is my first post on here. I recently purchased a 2002 XTerra SE four wheel drive and signed up on Club X. Another Iowa member (xterror04) told me about xterranation so I signed up on here as well. Been reading through a lot of build threads and do-it-yourself threads to get some mod ideas for the Spring when the weather warms up.

The XTerra is pretty much stock right now (still has the mud flaps, lol). Only mods thus far is a drop-in K&N filter, new Firestone Destination AT's, and some stereo stuff. I purchased it from the original owner with high mileage, but it had been dealer maintained was very clean for a midwest vehicle.

I am planning on doing a few small things in the spring......
-lift the front a bit (level with rear) with a torsion adjustment
-Bilstein shocks
-32's on some aftermarket 15" wheels
-remove mud flaps
-replace the clamps on the powersteering line
-fix the headliner
-blast the hitch and add some Por15 (only rust on the whole rig thankfully)

Definately looking forward to posting on here more often and hopefully adding some pictures of the X soon. I also post under the same username on some other forums (mostly Mustang and bmx related forums), so you are into that stuff you migh recognize the name.

Welcome, we are glad to have you! There are some pretty smart people here who know a lot about Gen 1 Xterra's, so if you have a question don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks guys! I am in central Iowa, about 45 miles east of Des Moines.

I was originally looking at second gens, but after missing out on a local good deal for a 2005, this 2002 came up and the price was too good to pass up.

Hey man. Welcome from Kentucky.

I noticed that you said that you want to make small/little upgrades to your X. Just watch out for this pandemic going around called "Modding". It has everyone going crazy.

I did a slight amount of upgrades and am pulling somewhere into the 4k range.

Thanks again guys! I know how the mod bug goes, my Mustang usually swallows a lot of my cash during the warm weather months. My wife and I are expecting our first kid in February, so that will diminish the mod funds a bit, although the kid was the main reason I sold my truck and purchased the XTerra.

Added another fix to my list, the saggy headliner. It is not that bad, but is starting to come down in front of the sun visors. Probably won't mess with that until Spring unless I can get down to Des Moines and work on it at the shop my brother-in-law works at.

If any of you Midwest guys have any used parts available, let me know! (xterror04, keep me posted about that IAB).

Welcome to XN!

What kind of Mustang do you have? I've got an 87 T-Top GT that's my long term project. So I know how that two project system works.

Congrats on the kid too!

Sounds familiar.

I'm 306, B-cam, ported E7s, stock intake, BBK CAI, 5-lug swap w/Cobra brakes, full Cobra body kit, 2012 GT500 wheels, 2002 GT leather interior, and all kinds of suspension goodies (all Maximum Motorsports). I'm currently swapping in an 04 Cobra IRS w/ 3.73s. Then I'm going to redo the exhaust from the headers back and do new intake and heads.

Here is how she looked before I started the axle swap.

That is a nice looking car! I am currently gathering parts for the rear disc set-up and converting to Cobra brakes front and rear. Probably going to 31 spline axles with a 03-04 Cobra trac-loc as well.

I am still looking for a good deal on a LX roller to swap everything into (I hate convertibles).

Do yourself a favor. Get the 96-98 spindles for the front. It increases your track a little and the tie rod angle almost requires a bumpsteer elimination kit, but if you want to run wider tires up front you're going to need the track width. My wheels are 18x9 with 245 rubber in the front. If I didn't have those spindles, I'd be hitting the strut with the wheel.

I am currently running the 94-95 spindles with 18x9 fronts (245 tire), and luckily my only rubbing is the rim hitting the control arm at full lock. This will be fixed whent the tubular k-member and control arms go on in the Spring time.

The FR500's will be getting swapped out this year as well. Hoping to find an 18x8 for the front so get more coilover clearance. Rears will be 18x11 (CCW knock-offs). Rolled fenders and BFH inner well to help tuck them when the car is more low.
