Need a new bumper - 2001

So I'm really considering buying a new bumper. The one I have doesn't look very stable tbh and the mechanics I take it to have said that the plastic lining (?) between the bumper and the actually vehicle isn't very stable and with the amount of off roading that I do (I do it maybe once or twice a week), that it will continue to have problems. I don't need to be on the trails and the damn bumper come loose and fall off my X lol (that would be problematic and embarrassing). So I've been looking at some bumpers and I don't know of many off road/bumper companies/websites so if you know of one that's in my price range and looks nice, then please tell me!

So one that I REALLY REALLY REALLY like is the 2001 Xterra bumper from Shockworks. http://shrockworks.com/2000-2004-Xterra-Front-Winch-Bumper-pr-16139.html The problem with this is it's WAY out of my price range. I can definitely afford it, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much.

One that's second in line is the Calmini pre-runner bumper http://www.calmini.com/detail.php?b=1&m=1&t=6&p=1008&n= That's definitely in my price range, and with it being mounted onto the factory bumper mounts, that'll make it A LOT easier on me. The only problem is with the looks. I know looks aren't everything but you have to love the look of your truck to truly enjoy it. I've seen some xterras that look great with it on, (I think the picture on the Calmini website doesn't do it justice) so I'm definitely not ruling out the bumper.

I guess my price range is around $400, and $500 being the max, (I might go a little higher, but not in the 100's). Anyone have any suggestions?

James at RLC is awesome. I know a guy up north had a shrock for sale but I believe that it was for the 1.5 gen; also check Texas craigslist posts if you are set on Shrock, they are abundant down there being that Shrock is based there.

You can get a basic bumper from him, no hoops and then if you decide you want hoops later you could have any welder fab you some up for cheap.

If you are going to replace it, it is absolutely worth the money to upgrade it.

Alright, I'll give him a call and see what he might be able to do for me. I still think it's going to run around $600 though if I'm not mistaken though. Although I can't view his website and get accurate prices.

lol yea it is. I live in Arizona. So he gave me some information which might be the thing I needed to make me want to buy a bumper from him. He said that accepts partial payments while he works on the bumper, and then (most likely will take a month or so) when he finishes or before he finishes, you pay off the rest. So it's like a lay-away. So I'm REALLY considering buying one right now, maybe putting down $200-300 in the beginning, then after a couple paychecks, paying off the rest before he finishes.

I emailed RLC awhile back for a quote and with hoops, hitch (yes front hitch) light tabs and a few other custom touches it was like $750ish....but then I saw a shrock on craigslist for $400 which I bought for $300....keep an eye out and stuff does pop up

Well, I'm not sure what to do. I can't wait for long. I'm moving to Alaska in mid April and I'm probably going to need a new bumper before then. If I wait too long, I would have moved before he gets finished, and if I buy one now, I might miss an opportunity for a good bumper that's cheap.

In your case I would go with RLC. If I hadn't gotten such a deal on the shrock that's who I would have gone with.

Pretty sure it was MAD X selling his Shrock for $600 or something. Don't hold me to those numbers, though. He's also in Hartford Ct. Would suck to ship that.

You know what, I'm just going to order from RLC. All I hear is great feedback from his work and I really can't wait too much longer. I'm not only worried about the time of when I'm leaving, but also my bumper. I'm just going to do it.

I can say I'm in the same boat as you were I like the rerun ear bumpers I've seen on other trucks but idk if it would look good on mine. UNTIL I saw one in person and loved it. Thing looked mean as hell. Now idk what bumper it it was but it was a prerunner. I didn't get to ask the guy what maker it was but it looked awesome. Plus they are typically $200-300 cheaper and lighter than full bumpers. Another idea would be to cut the OEM bumper down to get a better approach angle

I love my RLC bumper.. I own #2 :)
I met James and he is a killer guy to deal with. Great thing about RLC is when they give you a date.. It's on time! Vs shrockworks 9 week promises that turn into 9 months

I've heard nothing but great stuff about RLC bumpers and if you go with James I'm positive you'll be happy. However, closer to home(yours) physically, MAXTERRA makes bumpers for GEN2's, You might look into him as another option if he has GEN1 bumpers.

Yea same here. I've already ordered one and he's making it now so I'm not going to tell him to stop lol

Nah, I already put in an order from him.

I know! I've been reading that! Or that it comes earlier than the date! If there's one thing I hate more than having an order not be precise, it's not being punctual on the delivery date. But I have faith with RLC lol
