Mounts

How do you all mount your radios and what is the best way to do it? Right now I have a Trunking radio in the center console and the sound is muffled - not only that but every time I hit a bump it rattles. I had an exeternal speaker hooked up to it from RadioShack but that got blown without even trying (never was loud enough to actually hear anything). Where is the best place and what is the best method to mount a radio?? My trunking radio looks like this: http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pRS1C-4324624w345.jpg

I'm 1st gen, but I did mine on the driver side of the center console, right next to the shifter. Mic is mounted near the cup holders, against the center 'crap' holder

In second gens most people either mount them right at the bottom below the regular radio or in the center council. The second is where I have mine, I also have a external speaker. I only use it during long road trips in major cities hoping to avoid traffic or off-road.

I bought a cheap radio shack cb radio it works good but it was about 1/2 inch too wide to fit in my console. So i decided to mount it up high making a j bend out of aluminum stock and mounting it uder the headliner. I got the idea from another member on TNX.

I strapped mine between the seats on top of the storage lid. held in place with a Nylon strap with speaker upwards. Works, not really in the way, other then the Coax sticks out some.

Seen some installed inside the console area..

Seems a lot of people are doing the same thing. I'm not really for screwing it into the headliner though. I need ti figure out a better way to put it in the middle console I guess.

Nah its not into the headliner I popped out the dome lights and pushed down slightly on the headliner and slid the aluminum stock above the headliner and mounted it to the crossmember above the headliner by drilling a 1/4 hole and sliding bolt in, it goes about 12 or 13 inches under the headliner. Im against drilling into the headliner as well I like a nice clean install that can be removed without leaving a mess behind.

Mine's screwed in below the glovebox with an external speaker mounted to the side of the center console...

Mine is the Cobra 75 that has the radio in the handset. Just mounted the little box inside the center console, drilled a hole to mount the cable hookup, and added an external speaker on the side of the box. Super clean, out of sight, and the hanset can be quickly unhooked to stash the he radio.
