These are a little more expensive, but they're stylish and they won't damage your rack rails.

FOURTREKS makes some awesome ones. They are a little privy though. Be sure to mount it on the passenger side of your truck.

Consider not mounting them that high.

In general, the more weight you add up high, the worse your Center of Gravity (COG).

Its not as bad in a static tilt situation, but the more weight on the roof, when in MOTION, the higher your polar moment is.

Sort of like if you are standing in the middle of a field holding a 50' tall flag pole up with your hands....its straight up and down, and you have it balanced...

...VS - the same situation except you are FIRST grabbing it as its already tipped 45º over, and its top is in motion towards the ground.

When a weight is at the end of a LEVER, it exerts more force.....and that's what roof weights are, weights on the end of a lever.

Food for thought.

Also, don't mount that up there using quick fists. Those aren't secure enough.

I like the price on those. I think I'd cut up an old bike inner tube to keep them from marring the rack rails. Or plasti-dip.

I ordered them from amazon, I will post pics when they come, I plan on installing it on my front bummper since my center tube is angled out a little bit. or O will toss it up on the passenger side. I ended up using the quick fist on the drivers side and threw a shovel up there.

We use these on MississippiGal's X http://www.amazon.com/Hi-Lift-Jack-T.../dp/B003CEODQI ,and they work great, but we have them mounted on a DepHep rack.[/QUOTE

Got any photos on that, ive been kicking around how id mount one up there other than bugging depehep .

I'll try to get a pic today or tomorrow since we are going to have to load the hi lift up for a short trip. The reason I like it for the DepHep rack is that we can move the mounts around. If the rack is full, we mount it high on the edge (front and back) of the rack, if the rack isn't full, we mount it to the floor of the rack at an angle so it sit low, kind of in the rack. I'll post pics asap.

Sorry these are so crappy (I was in a hurry), but here are a fw pics of the hi-lift mounts in the dep hep rack. Obviously we only mount them this way if we don't need the space for other gear. If it's full, we mount it lengthwise on the front and back top bars.

How much of a PITA is it to get it unmounted? Say you, umm, need it in rush. Maybe some wing nuts would help make it a bit quicker.

If you need a hi-lift in a rush, you are better off using a different piece of equipment lol. The hi-lift doesn't hurry, and for those that try to hurry it, it removes their body parts lol.

As fall as the wingnuts go, they didn't make any in that size in stores. And I have that size wrench in my glove for that specifically. Also, it only takes at max ten minutes to get it down. Plus, it works much better for anti-theft. I'm parked on side streets in Philly a bit too much for wingnuts

I have the actual Hi-Lift mounts cost me $80 but it came with the 1"-2" U bolts and 2"-3" U bolts. It's been nice cuz I change around the location all the time and can switch out the U bolts accordingly. But $55 isn't bad. You're just limited to the bigger U bolts which will fit around your stock rail, but like me, I had it on my aftermarket roof basket (smaller tubing) and needed the smaller U bolts.

These are some decent options - but I think I still want to try something with hardware added on to the horizontal mighty mount...can anyone verify the right mighty mount for the first gen roof bars is the 28H? Please? Anyone...? I swear I looked everywhere...

Definitely not secure enough!
Can you imagine a serious vehicle or obstacle collision and this hi-lift missile going thru another vehicles windshield?

They need to be bolted down, preferably with 1/2" bolts/studs in a higher grade.

I built my own mounts and they are great and were way cheaper. Only took me about an hour including getting the parts from my local Ace Hardware. If anyone is interested I have the link saved to the tutorial for this.
