MeFryRice's X Build

My name is Steve. I live in Newnan, Ga and moving over to the off-road scene from the import scene. I've always had a strong love for cars thanks to my parents. I moved to Georgia from Utah and participated in a Jeep Jamboree in Moab with my father when he purchased a new (at the time) '99 Grand Cherokee with their Quadra-Drive system...you guys want to talk about a poorly built vehicle, buy a Jeep. lol. I can say I've enjoyed the Xterra thus far simply because you don't need CCW wheels, hella-shiat fitment, etc. It's all about enjoying what you own and having a good time with friends.

I purchased my first X this past February from a dealership in Houston during a trip to TX2K12 when my WRX experienced an engine fire and I unfortunately had to watch it burn to a crisp. :( I was originally looking for an FJ Cruiser but after riding in a customer's Xterra one day, I was rather impressed and decided to starting looking at what they're selling for. During my research, I came across an Atomic Orange one. I later found out that they only offered it in '03 so that made my final decision due to the color being more rare, if you will. Mine is an XE 4WD with a 5-spd manual.

The car isn't anything impressive to look at compared to the other builds but I'm slowly getting it prepped for nXm12. Below are the mods that I'm planning to have before the big gathering, simple but effective.

- Calmini 3" suspension lift
- Shockworks rock sliders
- Under armor
- 32x11.5 BFG MT KM2
- A rear locker of some sort.

Enough with the gibberish and on to the pictures.

Here is a picture I took only minutes after picking it up.

The day after getting back to Atlanta with it, I removed the side steps and mud flaps. It looked to feminine (no offense to the ladies on here). This picture was taken in the back of an undeveloped neighborhood.

This was taken this past weekend during a camping trip at Amicalola Falls in the N. Ga mountains. It was a blast but I shortly realized that I need better tires and a rear locker.

You guys crack me up. lol. Every once in a while, I'll cross paths with another AO in town. It's driven by a female and always waves.

The locker of sorts that you refered to is a LSD, dont know why Nissan said it that way but it is a LSD. Now if you want to get a true locker you have a couple of options to look at. Or you can re-pack the LSD that you have for better performance.

I'd rather opt for a true locker although I've honestly haven't had a chance to research to see what my options are. If I'm going to do something, I'd rather do it once.

For Nissans, there really isn't much. ARB is your best bet. Its just a matter of how much you're willing to spend.

Good to see we have an AO on the boards!

^Truth! Modding is indeed an expensive bug to catch. But such a totally worthwhile hobby IMO. Your beginning list looks like a good one. Personally, I would say getting better tires (AT or MTs depending on your usage) should be the first mod. Lift and protection should come soon after. With decent driving skills and good spotters, you can get away without having a locker for a lot of things (believe me, I know this very well, haha).
Nice start so far!

$1k+/-. The locker is about $800, OBA can range from $100-500, depending on how reliable and how often you want to use your setup.

I will continue to mod the Xterra but as fast as I was planning since I purchased an LS1 FD this week. I needed another car to enjoy to replace the Subaru. My first upgrade is wheels/brakes. I could get away with using the 16"s but I would rather have a 15" to have a little more sidewall.

FC, FD, BVD's...can we speak engrish please?

Nice X man, please put the front center caps from the rear back on the front though...that drives me crazy when people rotate the tires and leave the caps on the same wheels like that. Looking forward to your future mods sir.
