Lifting Question!

I have a 2008 Xterra 4wd and I am trying to get a total of 3in in the front and 3in in the back. I have an arb bumper and winch with 608HD coils which give 1.5in of lift in the front. To get the other 1.5in I am wanting to just put on a PRG 1.5in spacer. Would I be able to do so if I purchase the PRG upper control arms? Or would I still run into some trouble? In the back I have some Bilteins that add 1.5in (got them cheap from a friend) and a adjustable shackle for the other 1.5in. I go off road occasionally but nothing too extreme.

You're on the right track. You will need the uca's to avoid cbc. For the spacers 3" is possible. Talk to Greg at prg when purchasing the uca's and he'll get you the right ones. As for the rear you will also want to look into extending you brake lines if going 3" or higher. When flexing its possible to stretch and snap the lines at that height.

What coilover do you have up front? You said you have 608HD coils, but what about the shock itself? Is it the stock one with HD coils or aftermarket?

You know I was looking at the line issues this weekend when I was swapping out my brake stuff. The issue honestly isn't the brake lines themselves, but at full droop the ABS line is stretched taught on my truck. I have OME leaf packs and the PRG shackles at the highest notch. So that's some 4+" iirc?

So what would you suggest replacing?

Where would you purchase extended break lines/abs line?

For the lines, typically, you just unclip them as needed, so they can follow a straighter/shorter route and not be so stretched. Zip ties can be added to hold the new, more direct, positions, etc.

For the rear. You don't need extended brake lines. You just need to create a stupid little bracket to lift them up. You mention you got new shocks which gave you 1.5" of lift. Shocks don't give any lift. They can be longer to allow more travel. The only way to gain lift in the rear is shackles which you said you had. And an add a leaf (aal) or new leaf pack.

For the front. I would get the entended brake lines. You can go through 4x4parts, PRG, or Nisstec. I would talk to PRG or Nisstec about what upper control arm you would need. Yes a spacer would add that extra height. Is this the best way no. But it is a very common way and there is nothing wrong with it. How do you like your ride? By adding a spacer it will ride the same.

Here is the little bracket you can make for the rear brakes. The E-Brake you just disconnect.

Okay so I'll have the shackles with 1.5in and a add a leaf for the other 1.5in right? I've heard that once you add a leaf over time it wears down or something like that and you end up loosing your lift. Could you way in on this?

Here is my brake extension bracket:

I have a 2" AAL and adjustable shackles set at 1.5"
The add a leaf will help stiffen up the notoriously weak pack. I don't know from experience, but there have been stories of packs wearing down and sagging quicker with just the use of shackles.

Yes that is correct. Any leaf pack over times sags down and you end up lower then it was new. You can get them reworked or replace them. Your talking 80-100k miles. Depending on load and off-roading. Even my custom ones I have will wear out over time.

Could you explain more about what the rear bilsteins will do set at 1.5in?

The longer shocks in the rear allow more travel. Think of it like a rubber band you have a shorter one and a longer one. The shorter one will always be able to be shorter then the longer one. But the longer one can stretch more then the shorter one. This extra stretch allows your axle to flex more. But you don't want them to be too long otherwise there is no room for the axle to travel up. So you need to find that good balance.

With the bilsteans there are 4 options according to Nisstec.

0-1.5" Which i'm guessing is what you have.
2-2.5"
3-4"
4.5-5.5"

I would suggest with your new setup to be in the 3-4" range. Now this is not an Ohh **** I need to change this right now. Just keep it on the list for down the road. You can also talk to Nisstec or PRG about this. If you don't do much off-roading or non at all this would not be a priority as it deals all with flex of the axle.
