After long consideration, a few threads, and a couple test drives, I picked up a 2009 S. This is my 2nd xterra, my first was a 2004 xe which I sold and have regretted ever since. None the less heres my new X.

At the dealer before i drove it off the lot

There are quite a few things wrong with this X that I have learned about since it bought it.

Heres a list to bring it up to par.

Paint plastics : semi-done
Remove rear mudflap... done
Rear diff leak
Fix exhaust rattle
Little bit of body damage
Tranny flush
Gear oil
Engine oil

List of upgrades
New head unit
Led swap
Oem fogs
Trailer hitch

List of mods

...open to suggestions!

My sweet ironman all country's the dealer stuck on there before I purchased it. Which will be coming off soon, mainly because they thump when I take turns. First I am gonna swap tires to see if the thump switches sides.

Nice X.
First mod, if it hasn't been done, should be the radiator bypass! Prevent smod before it kills you

I thought I had a rear diff leak but instead it was just really dirty. Cleaned it up, checked my diff fluid, everything looks good.

I swapped in some leds as well.

Looks like you are on the right path.. Id do the tranny by pass too.. At some point in 2009 they switched fluids and fixed the SMOAD issue.. but.. Id still do that and add a 9" fan to the existing cooler

Well my build thread my come to an end sooner than later!

I noticed thumping sounds in the front end...thought it was the smod or a bad tire...turned out it was 2 bad wheel bearings...not so bad at the tune of $650

But, there was also a swirling sound comng from the rear end in which I thought was the new rotors and brake pads they put on before I bought it...unfortunately it was the rear end itself. The pinion bearings, carrier bearings, and everything thing else inside of the diff is crap...nissan doesn't do partial re-builds so $2500 for the rear axle

Total parts and labor... $4000+

At this point I am trying to take this truck back to the dealer that I bought it from mainly cause I was told that I was getting a truck that had been looked over by their techs and was in good working order...shame on me for trusting them!

I super bummed about this!!!

If you decide/have to keep it, the unit bearings are a couple hundred in parts and a few hours of labor. Depending on where you are I'm sure most members wouldn't mind helping you. The rear axle in your truck is probably the most common axle ratio for an Xterra so find a used rear axle and swap it in.

I would still discuss with the dealer helping with some repair costs.

Pretty much. The dealer had better cover that.
The dealer refunded my money and I am going in the morning to get my stuff out of the it. They were very cooperative and were very quick to give me my money back... So tomorrow they are gonna have it towed to an auction house. Back to square one! ...which is lame!

She's being towed to an auto auction at 12pm. I got all my stuff out of, and the dealer refunded my money.

Any used rig is pot luck unless you knew the seller, etc....and even then, rig to rig tolerances, etc, can simply mean that any given truck could be about to blow an XYZ w/o warning....its just the nature of the beast.

Its one of the reasons that the second I bring a used rig home, I tear it apart and change out/examine everything I can....even if the pre-purchase examination/inspection looked great.

Its kind of like buying a house...after you move in, you start to notice stuff the home inspector, the walk-through, etc, missed.

Its the price you pay to save the money vs a new rig.

:D
