Hey so fml, seriously, fml. So I got my tire back, good as new and only cost me $25 to fix. Awesome right? Well, loosen my tire to replace it with the one that was fixed. All come off, easy peasy lemo squeezy. EXCEPT, this one damn stubborn f'ing lug nut! I'm sure you know where I'm going with this. Yes, the ****ing thing SNAPS off. So, here's the damage!

So I am in desperate need of advice! Is this okay to still drive around? I know that these have snapped off on other people when they're driving and probably haven't noticed it for a while, but will it to any damage? Is this going to be pricey to fix or is it something I can do easily myself? I'm in need of help!

yes you will be fine driving it around...

The part costs about 3 dollars and will take about a hour to fix...

lol okay I've been reading around because no duh, other people have had this problem. So as you've said, it will be okay. I was just freaking out at the time and didn't know the name to the part that broke off so I wasn't quite sure how to google it until I found out it was a broken lug nut stud. I was just pissed and rushed to the forums to ask :/ One thing goes wrong, it's fixed. Another thing goes wrong and another thing goes wrong lol it's very frustrating for someone who is mechanically challenged.

lol thank you :) Also it was my first time lifting my X with a hi-lift! Put it under my front bumper and I couldn't BELIEVE how fricken easy it was to lift it up to take the tire off! The Hi-Lift jack was worth EVERY penny!

my mom got her giant ass shed moved when she moved and the shed mover guy used a highlift jack and lifted it like a piece a cake...seriously things are sweet...just cant use them on plastic bumpers though...but great if you cant afford a winch

You are actually better that it snapped off. I had one cross threaded and spinning around in the hub, so I couldn't snap it off. Took several hours with a 3 lb sledge hammer and a cold chisel and a dremel to cut the lug nut out

Imagine trying to swap a spare on the side of the road with a lug nut that is bound and you can't get your wheel off. Snapping off is much better

I am still driving mine with only 5 lugs...too lazy to fix it

Only one is fine, even two (preferably if on opposite sides of you are lucky) I was missing 2 on 1 side and 2 on another and 1 on another, all broke off at the same tire rotation. Easy to replace, pound the old one out, put the new one in, and tighten down (without the wheel on) then off and put wheel on.

fix it by yourself, the more that you know about how your truck works, and how it is put together the better you will be in the long run. Plus the personal satisfaction of knowing that you did it, instead of just paying someone else.

I actually carry a few extra wheel studs in my vehicle. Why you ask, if I have to change a tire and break one or a few. It is always better to have them all the time then to be missing one or two. They are not that hard to put in there are a few different techniques. U can use a socket/lug nut to squeeze it in or I prefer using a large C clamp to help push it in with a socket on the back side. Now if I had a press well that is always the easiest method.

Firestone charges $190 to replace the wheel stud on the front. I got a rear stud replaced for 30 bucks.

The front 4wd hub and stuff has to be taken all apart I think...which is why the front costs so much more

I don't think the Hub has to be removed.. The area that holds the stud will unbolt.. Tap the old stud out then tap the new stud in

i painted my wheels today and i broke one off little bastard. then i saw on another wheel that i had one broken. as far as getting it out i think the hub does have to come off if i remember correctly from my mechanic telling me. I could be wrong but ill have to replace them soon...just not at the moment

Same thing I tell everyone. The only reason anyone ever has a maintenance free car is because they aren't performing maintenance. If you continually dig under the hood you will find problems on any car.

I will have to take a closer look. I know firestone had quoted me $190 and I laughed at them. I was in for an alignment and thought I might as well just have them do it to save time. Nevermind....LOL

I figured I would wait it out for a while and completely service the front end...pack wheel bearings, pads, lug stud, clean 4wd hubs, etc. Good to know though, If I can not have to disassemble everything, I may take care of it sooner.

If it can be done without taking the hubs apart I sure missed it. Would have been nice to get that couple extra hours of sleep before nXm last year...

The hub has to come off. Because the part that holds the stud has the hub bolted to it. And you have to pull the hub and remove the C-clip in order to pull the rotor. Unless you've abandoned the C-clips. Then no. It can stay on.

So is pulling the hub difficult? When the shop I took it to for my free tire rotation mucked 3 of the (same wheel, same side of the wheel) I was gonna do it but then chickened out when it said I had to pull the hub. Wasn't sure about the reinstall on it. So I took it back to them for a repair for free. Good thing too cause one of the bolts holding the rotor on snapped and they replaced my rotor for free too.
