Group Activity: Learn to Weld with ThePlasticOne!

As many of you know, I teach welding! A few months ago I successfully put together a group of TNX members for a morning of welding instruction (a lot of people had to bail for Hurricane Sandy, but the three that showed up got to learn Oxy-Acetylene welding, Stick welding, MIG welding, and plasma cutting in just three hours) and I'd like to do another event soon.

We are currently looking at $75 a head for three hours of instruction, for a group no larger than 10 (the shop can handle bigger, but we'd have to work out another arrangement). My original proposal for the October event was three hours in the morning for Oxy and Stick, then two after lunch for MIG and a small project for an additional $50. I think I'm going to try to stick with a single three-hour session this time around.

My studio is located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, literally next door to the Sam Adams Brewery (and if we work out a Saturday morning class, we can head on over to the Brewery for free beer afterward!). We also offer shop time for experienced individuals, or those who take all three of our welding courses (so if we do Oxy/Stick/MIG in a day, it will qualify you to use our shop for $25/hr!).

Workshop has been set for Sunday, 02/17 (day before President's Day) from 10am-1pm and cost $75.

Interested:
1. Ricel
2. idratherbe (morning or afternoon)
3. KChurch86
+2 TNX

Attending:
1. idratherbe
2. Skyfaller (TNX)
3. westracing01

For those like me who aren't able to attend his class (which by the way I think is great), asked around in your area like I did. It took a little time but I did find someone willing to let me watch, learn and practice. If you're really want to learn a craft that will open up many possibilities for you. Also look into used welding equipment. Some good machines are out there pretty cheap. Just do your research first.

I've checked the shop schedule for President's Day weekend - our Saturday (16th) is booked and we're trying to run an 8-hour intensive on that Sunday, which is a much more expensive class. However, since no one's signed up for it yet I'm going to see if we can cancel that class and buy out a morning block for us instead (and perhaps run an afternoon workshop as well, whether that's for us or open enrollment). If the three of you and two guys from other boards can come on the 17th, we can probably make it work.

Unless you guys are interested in the longer class (same material, just drawn out with more knowledge bombs to drop and plenty of time to work) - I think that class is normally $300 and I can take $75 off (so at most $225). But since our enrollment for the 8-hour classes tend to be low, the studio would rather run a shorter class with guaranteed enrollment.

My summer is jam-packed so far, I think it might be August before I can do another Xterra club class (although I teach most weekends anyway - PM me for my schedule).
