I know a few people were interested to know, after a full day of trail romping, limb scratching, mud slinging, dust covered fun, how the dip held up. Well, I got her all scrubbed up and used a high pressure car wash and didn't find a single scratch or tear in the Plasti-Dip. Everything appears good to go and the places where you could see the rubbing on the finish just cleaned right off. I feel like I can absolutely recommend this process to everyone. Keep in mind that dipyourcar.com sells a clear gloss as well, so even as a paint protector, I think the product has merit. I'd really love to do a mod day and help someone else do theirs. Bottom line from me is that the finish looks great, stands up to a decent amount of abuse and cleans well, I'm very happy with it!
Good to know! I was just wondering about the dip (you've been reading my mind.....lol).
Oh....and I will gladly volunteer mine for that mod day....:kewl:

If I weren't bedlining mine this summer I would so do plasti dip after seeing how many branches we hit and it didn't tear it.

I really really love the Plasti-Dip idea and I know for sure mine will be done. I like the idea of it better than bed-liner as that stuff is REALLY heavy, and heard as hell (in my opinion) to clean. You Sir, have sold me.
I know that we're talking about extra costs and untested ideas, but you could theoretically dip your X in black, and then bedliner on top, that way it would still be plausibly removable... just a thought.

I'm sure if you weighed the bedliner and plasti dip together there is not a huge margin of difference there.
I see what you're getting at here, but I can tell you that this is incorrect. Dipyourcar.com peeled an Audi A4 and weighed the dip which was 6 coats, and it came out to 1.5 lbs. From the website rhinoaz.com, a company that does spray liners (found on a google search) it states that a spray in bedliner (not a whole truck) will add 35 to 65 lbs depending on the size of your bed.
