What should my April Mod be?

Do you have sliders and a winch already? If it were me, I'd focus on the armor and recovery gear before the lift, unless you already have those pieces and are just looking to upgrade. If you're upgrading, I'd go with the lift first. :)

No sliders or winch yet... All of this stuff, and more, will be purchased before the nXm so it's really just the order in which they're purchased.

I would say sliders first. I say that because I have sliders (just installed skids this weekend so I am not considering the 1 time wheeling with them) and having the protection will serve you better than a lift will. The winch is something that is now high on my list, but if you don't plan on wheeling by yourself I would wait. A winch is nice when you need to pull yourself out of something. If you are saying "well what if I need to pull someone else out?" then get yourself some tow straps and call that a day.

Armor first, winch, then lift.

Digging all the input. I never go wheeling alone, and have straps at all times, so I guess that puts the winch as a "can wait." I am really just battling with the whole logic vs. desire debate between the sliders and the lift. The sliders are essential in the prevention of body damage and for protection, and are a sound and much needed investment. The lift is one of those things where I really like the look of a completely lifted X, and will convince myself that being 3" taller will reduce the need for sliders because I'll be taller. I guess that's what I'm battling with decision wise is logic vs. desire, but I want to hear more of what folks have to say. It seems that the sliders are high on everyone's list.

I can relate, DJ! Sponge has his Nisstec lift while my X is still stock height, and I'm seriously jealous when I see them side by side. I need the armor first, but I'm suffering from short lady syndrome.

Do you have a BL? (I haven't fully gone through your thread) Do you plan on installing one? (if you haven't)

That is the only lift I would be worried about. I say that because all your bumpers and sliders are mounting to the frame, but you will want to have them "flush" to the body. IF you already have the BL, then I would get sliders. The suspension lift will make you "taller" but you might put yourself in a position that you want them.. and if you are there without sliders, well be prepared to hear your door panels kissing and getting intimate with a rock.

*Side note: I have decided to boost funding by possibly getting rid of one of my R/C's, I much prefer building the 1:1 vs the scale ones, lol. I should be able to garner $350-$400 for it. If/When it sells, I will be doing both the sliders and the 3" suspension lift. Otherwise I'll go with the poll on the 1st! It is a Team Associated Rival 1/8th scale Monster Truck should anyone be interested and includes over $200 worth of extras.

Sliders are winning pretty big. I really didn't think I needed to get them right away.

So yeah, my rocker panel could tell you other wise . . and the innder part of the passenger fender.

i go sliders first and skids, you will have a piece of mind on the trails. so what your not lifted a PML and AC shackles will give you plenty before you ready for a full suspension. trust me these xterras are very capable

Yeah, sliders are job #1....get them for the BL as you have the BL....so you keep the ground clearance/get the most rocker protection.

I'd then do skids if you don't have them....with a SL after that, and, a winch last. I assume you already have a hi-lift, and other recovery gear?

I think this is pretty much in the bag for sliders, lol. I am considering going with the sliders from Trail Gear from Rugged Rocks on the recommendation of a friend, the price is nice for sure.

TJTJ I do have a Hi-Lift, straps, sand ladders and a y-yoke for recovery equipment... and a shovel.

Everyone, what are the best/worst/cheapest options for skids? Which specific plates should I get "first?"

Echoing everybody when I say sliders first.

As for skids I would recommend Skid Row and getting either the engine/tranny or xfer case.. You have to have the engine/tranny before you can install the front skid.

Looking forward to seeing this rig at WENT!

Dude, white knuckle sliders. Only way to go. They are proven and will be on your door step in roughly 2 weeks after the order

I hear everyone on the White Knuckles, I really do. Here is my question... With the White Knuckle sliders being constructed out of either HREW tube ($480) or the stronger DOM ($520) and the Trail Gear sliders being constructed out of DOM ($184) and fully positionable, where is the $336 in added value? I'm not knocking White Knuckle and I like the look of theirs better than the Trail Gears, but I like the look of $340 in my wallet better as well.

I've honestly never heard of trail gear sliders before so I can't speak to their quality. However I've beat on my white knuckles pretty hard and have barely even noticed it. At most I've had just respray them when the paint has been scraped off.

Trail gear sliders are universal sliders that come in pieces you can trim, position, and weld to your liking.

The added value in application specific sliders is that you don't have to do any work...bolt em up right out of the box. Take the guess work out of getting things symmetric and level. If you have a strong enough welder, an angle grinder, and various jack stands and measuring equipment, then you are just saving yourself some time.

If White Knuckle offered a DIY slider kit, they could price them much cheaper. Making a generic 68" long bent tube slider with pre-notched tubes isn't difficult. Having the application specific jigs and weld fixtures to make sure everything lines up perfectly is where the value is.

Me...I like making stuff...but no matter how many times I measure...something always ends up the slightest bit lopsided...

Well, getting sliders definitely won. The next question was which ones to get... So, I went right in between the White Knuckles and the Trail Gears and jumped on the P&P Group buy. Thanks everyone for all the input, it was much appreciated!

The P&P sliders are what I had on mine at Prentice Cooper...not sure if you noticed them.....pretty sure I got one of their 1st sets! So far, I'm really happy with them!
