Does anyone know the travel length specs for the Brillstein 5100 shocks? I found some 5125 shocks and they just come in the 10 inch travel 12 inch traveler 14 inch traveling I'm just wondering if those would work as well

The 5125's are really 5100's. The difference (according to the Bils rep) 5100's are designed for a specific vehicle where the 5125's are for specific lengths. According to her we should not use 5100 because it wasn't designed for the Xterra we should use the 5125's and choose a travel length.

Of course I have 5100's. The Bils rep is named Karen and the number I called is 1704 663 7563

did the rep happen to mention the valving that you would need? that's one of the most important parts of buying a shock. I run 93-98 grand Cherokee rear shocks but they only extend/compress to stock length which is why I'm also in the market for new shocks.

No, back then I didn't know what questions to ask...which is why I got the 5100's instead of the 5125's. Although I like the 5100's when it comes time for new ones, thanks to you folks here on XN I know what questions to ask.

I've read both TJTJ's and Casper's threads in the past and would love to go 7100's but they're prolly too much for the IFS system... Maybe ok for the rears. But I can still dream...lol

stole this from tjtj

The OEM shocks (00-04 X's)

Front

9" compressed/13" extended (4" Travel), 285/65 valving

Rear

14" - 23" (9" travel), 205/55 valved

-----------------------

The Bilstein 5100's, or HD of same specs (00-04 X's), with what has come to be known as 20% stiffer valving....this does vary a bit across the line, but, is close:

Front

9" compressed/13" extended (4" Travel), 360/80 valving

Rear

16" - 26" (10" travel), 255/70 valving

---------------------------

The second #, compression, helps to control the UNSPRUNG weight/movement/forces from the axles and tires, etc. (Stuff the suspension is not supporting)

The first #, rebound, helps to control the SPRUNG weight, like the frame, etc. (Stuff the suspension IS supporting)

So, as long as the weights and angles and so forth are similar, shocks for one rig can work fine on another.

Where it gets tricky is where the angles are off, like one truck has the shocks mounted at a 30º angle, and another has them at a 15º angle...

Because the larger the angle, the stiffer the valving has to be to control the same damping forces.

If my tires are 100 lb each, and yours are 50 lb each, well, I'll need more compression damping than you will, etc.

And so forth

those seem like they would work. they compress a little less than the 3" lift ones but extend a bit more. they seem like they would work, I would check the valving on them though

You better start buying longer brake lines... and if you flex too much you will end up hitting the cross member with drive shaft... Kelly had issues with adding revolvers..

Already have the longer brake line, I shouldn't have cross member issues with just my aal, but It would be nice to not have the shocks be my flex limiter as much, my ranchos rusted out over the winter
