AC Control Light Issues

Hello all of my Xterra Gurus... I have had an issue with my X since we got it.. and it really doesn't bother me... except for when I'm driving in the dark... which is of course a lot. I don't have actual shot of mine... but here is a pic of what my dash looks like... except for the whole AC section doesn't light up. I've checked all the fuses in the control panel on the passenger side and they're all fine.

The radio and 4WD controls all light up fine... it's just the AC section.

Is there a light bulb back there that I need to be looking for? If so... anyone tackled this? How easy is it to do?

Are there any common issues with the lights?

Thanks in advance!

Kel there should be a bulb back there. I know there is on the first gens. If the fuses are good then I'd look at the bulb next. Good luck! :)

This maybe a stupid reply but I didn't know about it until i played with it. Have you turned your lights on and twisted the tachometer reset post? It at least on my 06 adjusts, the brightness of the lights connected to the dimmer.

Yeah joe we tried that.. All the other lights pop up bright.. I'm guessing there are a couple bulbs back there? Odd that the whole control panel is out.

FWIW, my '04 does this as well. All the top center console lights go out until I start slapping it around, then they all come back. Haven't torn into it yet to figure out why, but my guess is a bad connection.

Could be the same in your case I guess?

Ditto, but it's on the Fan control. Usually comes on when I turn the Fan on.

Well sounds like its time for a mod and a how to write up on switching led colors.

I considered that myself Joe. Thought about an LED conversion for the whole thing, instrument panel and all.

I'm pretty sure everything in the second gen's dash and instrument panel is LED, so I'm guessing there's a single loose illumination wire going to the AC control panel.

In the plug on the back of the module, the green wire is for positive illumination and the brown one next to it is the negative illumination. Make sure you have voltage continuity across those two pins with the parking lights turned on before you pull the control module apart to change bulbs/LEDs. That would make more sense than multiple lights burning out at the same time, especially since, as I said, I'm pretty sure they are all LEDs. Some of the guys on an unnamed 2nd gen forum have swapped all the dash illumination to a different color, which is why I remember them being LED. I can get pics of the AC module if you need them.

It is probably the bulbs. I had to replace them in the frontier and xterra. (I meaning "the hubby"). It wasn't hard. Dealer item. Specify which bulbs they are otherwise they want you to bring it in so they can look.
