What up everyone or anyone. Have been to the event twice and to the park 3 times. I am in NOVA so count me in under the 703 as a YES for attendance. From me and about anywhere from here to Richmond its approx.. 8 hours / 500 miles one way no matter how you slice it. You can push through how ever you want, but the further down 81 you get the more frequent you want to stop especially when gas gauge gets around 1/4 tank cause of the mountains sucking it down and stretching is a must. Typically it takes me 2.5 tanks to get there then 1.5 on the way home cause of the elevation. But remember you will want a full tank when you begin the event and you shouldn't need to fill up again until you leave on Sunday. So definitely budget in 300-400 in gas alone. Camping is $16 per night and food is easy cause I stock up at the dollar store minus the beer or course and the event will feed you one if not 2 of the nights. So most of your food is consumed in the morning for breakfast, eaten on the trails or dining out in town which is super cheap. Friends and I always take advantage of the Kountry Kitchen for breakfast and an all you can eat buffet for dinner one of the nights. There is a permit required and I think its $75 for the year or you can get daily permits if you only intend to drive certain days. Always budget in an extra 100 for raffle, souvenirs and beer. All in all about $600 per truck. Of course that is divided significantly if you have riders bearing the costs with you. I know that sounds steep for an off road event. But if you have ever been, trust me you will find the money to come back the following year because the entire adventure of packing up for 4+ days, driving further than your local run arounds, enjoying endless trails (trails you may not even get to go on in the same event), talking truck shop with more than 100 other like minded enthusiasts, surrounded by mountain peaks and "eye truck" candy, picking up some kick ads raffle prizes to justify your expenses, helping out fellow drivers through the course or repairing trucks, meeting great people and showing off to your friends and family when major publishers post reviews about the event........
