What horns you go with? Lost my horn over the winter, salt seized the pump. Bought a cheapie air horn to get by for now but have been looking into more commanding options.

Today was the first sunny and relatively warm day I've had off in 6 months. It seems to always rain or snow on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Any way got a chance to work on the storage/tool/power box project. Finished the base and sides (sanded and first coat of urathane), cut the polypropelyne for the drawers. Measured and cut the carpet for the top. Next will be to cut the top, sand, and apply the first coat of urathane. I took a few pics but the sun was in and out so I don't know how they turned out. Post 'em later.

I started to put together the battery box for under the seat storage but found out that our HUGE AZZ muffler sits directly under the rear passenger seat. So that's out unless I change my exhaust system sooner than I planmed. So it's back to the original design.

If anyone wants spare rear seating...I've got some minus bolts. All 8 heads snapped off. You can have them for the shipping cost or free if you pick them up. Seat belts also cause Steena is now a 2 seater. Also the stock jack. Today was garbage day so you've got 1 week until it all goes in the trash.

Sounds like cool project. You building a sleeping platform then? I've considered ditching the seats as well. The doors don't swing wide enough for my large camping cargo though. I spaced on the fact that the muffler lies under the seat. Perhaps if you just put the dual batteries on the rear floorboards. Low center of gravity.

No "sleeping" platform, I'm too tall...lol, but there will be 2 platforms. If my measurements are correct, there should be enough room behind the front seats even with them all the way back for a Sears Platinum battery and the Locker compressor(if I ever get one). The platform (the base) expends from the tailgate 48" all the way to the end of the backseat platform. I cut an access panel into it just in case I needed to get to the gas tank panel. This front section will house the fuse block, relays, amp, ar horn pump and all the wiring and is covered so I can put "stuff" on top. The storage area will have 2 sides. 1 side with 2" deep sliding drawers for tools(sockets, screw drivers, wrenches) and the other with 4" large draw for larger items. The top also reaches from the tailgate but for only 32", has tie down rings and is covered with carpeting.

I also plan to replace the center consol. The new one will house my ol' skool Pres. Jackson CB, Pilot switches for lights and toys and the air horn button.

I located a mat 4'x4' gotta watch them though they smell horrible. Natural rubber or smelled like a chemical plant. This was like a bed mat for a pickup. Farm stores stock mats like that for cattle comfort or conveyor belts. Could go with a bathtub membrane liner (thing you install under a bath tub on installation). Depends what your looking for regarding thickness.

I found some tool drawer liner from Sears that comes in 22.5"x85". Plus they have the cutout foam tool holders. After laying stuff out I figured it was a waist of material to put rubber under the wires since I have the coated tap in staples to hold them down. What I found will go in the tool and storage drawers.

I made a list of everything I might need a switch for. Figured I'd wire everything now (minus the fuses for the things I don't have yet) and just add the new toy when I get it. Everything is on a switch/relay off the Aux. Bat.

LOL...I actually never used the arm rest to rest my arm it was too low for me. But I do have an elevated arm rest section to add that lifts back out of the way .

Lol that's right tall like me. If I let my posture go to crap the armrests work otherwise they are much to low. Especially the door armrest man I hate that. Looks like it might improve comfort a bit then as well.

Well think about it...2 sets over head, 1 set on bumper, 1 set fog, 1 set driving, Efan, Winch, Compressor, Air horns, Inverter, OBA, Amp. That's 12. I'd rather have everything on it's own circuit and off the main battery.

Came to the realization today that once the storage unit is complete the rear speakers will be useless. Have to relocate them cause they're only 1 yr old Alpines. Changed the design and moved the Amp next to the fuse block. Now I do have room on the rear wall for 2 10" Alpine subs and the 6x9's.
Can you tell I like Alpine equipment. :)

This makes the area just behind the gas tank access panel to the rear hatch all storage and the area in front for the driver and passenger surrounded by sound.

If you are going Alpine subs you have to go the R series. Those are sweet. I'm looking to change my sub for something better.

I already have the equipment just have to install it. Got a ton of stuff in the garage from previous vehicles, with folks money a bit tight these days didn't think anyone wanted the old stuff. Even if it was in good working condition so I'll just use it.

Well the sub set up I have was are om the absolute cheap. I paid 2 dollars for the sub at a thrift shop (went on a limb, hoped it worked), then I volunteered at a habitat for humanity restore and they had an old kicker L series sub box (the square ones) and I picked that up for a dollar. I made a custom faceplate out of some wood found around the home to house the sub and turned it into a ported box. The amp was bought at a pawn shop for roughly 30$ I get what you mean by staying cheap.

I am all about bargains. Are you planning on building your own box?

Yes. The back end of the storage box has a double wall to create a boxed area for the speakers. I actually also have a box that I took 1 of the 10" out of. If anyone is interested minus the cotton filling. lol

I keep forgetting about pawn shops...gotta go there to look for a few things too.

Installed the storage box sides:

Then rough fit the speaker box to see how much cotton to get:

Tomorrow I'll cut the top and urethane everything. Then it's the drawers and wires.

Got about 1/4 through wiring and thought I'd better check 'em. Glad I did cause nothing worked. But thanks to Chuckamazuk's Diagram I was able to figure out where I went wrong.
GREAT STUFF Chuck!!! :kewl:
Tomorrow I'll put in the low amp fuse blocks for the switches and wire those in.
Also realized everything will fit very nicely out of sight inside the new center console leaving behind the seats free for cargo.

Decided to make a flooring for the center console so the wires can be secured to it and not flop around. Now I really need to get that rubber tub mat to cover it. Had to remake the sides to adjust the height because the CB's too tall. Coming along nicely.

Well today Steena had to take a back seat. Wife wanted new steps for the porch. Had to make a few runs to HD and Menards for lumber and supplies.

Stained and applied urethane on the larger pieces today.
If yo look closely you can see the DOM tubing for my new bumpers and sliders behind the wood to the left.

Tomorrow the railing.

Then comes the fun part. Taking the old steps apart without getting stung. I forgot to mention there's a bee hive under there. :Annoyed:
