Planning to see John Carter on Wednesday. I was disappointed by the box office numbers, but I really think that Disney failed to promote it properly.

The worst part of how Disney handled John carter was by adding Disney to it..

All the adds are very confusing ..

I'm not sure but I'm guessing this movie has some sort of following?
Books or something

I only say that because one of the ad's had said it influenced star wars or something

Yeah, it's based on a series of short stories and novels by Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. Story dates back to the 20's I think. I first read it in college, and I've been a fan since, but I feel that the marketing of the movie didn't interest anyone that wasn't already familiar with the character. My wife and a couple of friends were totally uninterested until I explained the premise; the trailers just didn't capture the feel of the character or his situation.

Project X, its not a adult movie or a movie I would pay $9.50 to go see again. Yeah it has its hilarious parts but there isn't any plot to it.

Hoping to see act of valor in the next few days.

I read these when I was a kid, there's 12 of em...John Carter is a civil war veteran, and he never ages, for whatever reason, and I believe Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote these starting around WWI. He's being chased by apaches in the arizona desert, ducks into a haunted cave, where the indians are afraid to follow and...voila - he's transported to Mars! And he can jump super duper high and he's super duper strong because there's less gravity! Many adventures ensue! ...

Anyway, I was pretty stoked when I saw the previews, a little apprehensive about the Disney attachment. Dug up the books and read the first two last week when I was traveling. Pretty interesting to read them again 30+ years later...

I need to go see the movie, maybe tonight.

Saw the Hunger Games tonight. I can honestly say the books are better, HOWEVER, the movie was good. Very entertaining. Much better than all of the Twilight movies. For some reason that's what everyone compares it to. I can see why but they aren't even in the same ballpark.

yesterday and I have to say that it was pretty sad. There's one guy who plays a dumb surfer who's pretty funny, but the rest of the movie is very sad. It makes you thankful for what you have and can give you some perspective on life. But I wouldn't recommend watching it unless you like those types of movies.

Macland's 2012 Movie List

Well it’s that time again. The blockbuster movie season is upon us and we’ll soon have great movies available on almost a weekly basis. I like to get myself a list put together to keep track of what I’d like to see and it keeps me excited through my work week. This year is going to be more difficult for me to see movies with a baby on the way but I’m sure I can finagle my way into seeing a good handful. I don’t list everything because I frankly don’t want to see everything. I do however list things I’d like to see that I know I won’t get to for whatever reason. I stick mostly to blockbusters but I throw a few smaller films in there that I personally think are going to be standouts. Some are busts and we’ll talk about that when they get here.

April 27: The Five-Year Engagement
May 4: The Avengers
May 11: The Dictator
May 11: Dark Shadows
May 18: What to Expect When You're Expecting
May 18: Battleship
May 25: Men In Black III
June 1: Snow White and the Huntsman
June 8: Prometheus
June 8: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
June 15: That's My Boy
June 22: Brave
June 22: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
June 29: G.I. Joe Retaliation
July 6: The Amazing Spider-Man
July 13: Ice Age: Continental Drift
July 13: Ted
July 20: The Dark Knight Rises
August 3: The Bourne Legacy
August 3: Total Recall
August 17: The Expendables 2
September 14: Resident Evil: Retribution
September 21: Killing Them Softly
September 21: Hotel Transylvania
October 5: Taken 2
November 2: Red Dawn
November 9: Skyfall* (James Bond 007)
November 16: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2
December 14: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
December 21: This is 40
December 25: Django Unchained
December 28: The Great Gatsby

Ok, this is a huge list and obviously the dates are subject to change. I'm not going to go over every single film and explain why I want to see them or why you should because I'm not going to write a 3 page report, which I could :) . I will however discuss any of them if brought up. I love talking movies :w00t:

I am going to highlight the ones I think are going to be blockbusters though and we'll see how close I get, feel free to debate accordingly. Some movies I left out because although I think they will be successful, I don't think they'll be WIDELY successful.

Red Dawn is one of those I wished they hadn't messed with. I'll have to see it to know if they can convey the same feelings the original did.

Battleship, the Dictator, That's My Boy, and Red Dawn have the potential to either make money and be ridiculed by critics or just be flat out bombs.

My top five for the year are gonna have to be The Avengers, The Hobbit, The Dark Knight Rises, The Expendables 2, and Skyfall.

There's a new red dawn? To quote Job from arrested development...COME ON!!!

21 jump street was funny. Surprise win.

Yeah the new red dawn could have been cool.. But they used china as the bad guy.. And. Ow with the relations we have with china they have digitally redone many of the graphics and changed it to Korea.. This movie has been done since 2008 or 2009.. But either way the first still rocks
