pretty certain the intake hole in the 2nd gen fender is closer to the front of the truck than the middle of the fender, and 2nd gens are bigger and the angle of the window may also differ. you may or may not have luck tracking down a 2nd gen navara snorkel that may or may not work. if you have 2 bills to blow and can make it work then awesome and share with the group. i know its a punch for 4 bills but at least you know it will work.

The intake hole on first gen also is closer to the front of the truck. This one is meant to be put through the fender, run along the inside toward the front, and then through the hole in the inner fender. This is different from Dave's snorkel, I believe, and requires a couple of 90-degree turns instead of just one. Look on AC website, you'll see two versions, one of which enters farther away from the front of the truck (and fits the gen 1 better), but this one may not deliver air as efficiently because of the double-90 where it enters. This one is not the same one as Dave's.

Yeah I looked at this style of snorkel because of the price (AC) but the air flow was the issue for me.

Yeah, that is the template they give you. Its basically half a snorkel.
That's pretty cool
Yep your correct. This is not the same as Daves.
That is right.. I over paid a lot lol
How much more restricted do you think the air flow will be due to the added 90* bend?
That was the difference maker for me. I was looking at this helping the MPG issue. The faster that cool air with get to the engine the better. I have seen people use corrugated plastic pipe for these. That disrupts the air flow.. I felt like this 90 deg turn would disrupt the air flow, So I was willing to spend the extra cash.. plus mine sticks up about 8" higher vs this one. I felt like this one may be in my driving vision. Now if I had to look at this snorkel price vs mine.. 200 vs the 400 I spent lol.. I do not think It would be a issue for me. Either way its a very cool mod that will get your Xterra a ton of looks..
I'm personally not gonna worry about it. Your still gonna be sucking down much cooler air than it is stock so, power should be the same or better than stock.
This is true... Get ready for the idiots that ask you if you can go in water that deep. lol Im worn out by these questions and just go with it now lol.

Dave your snorkel is actually cheaper than the other one (plastic not fiberglass) by like 30 bucks or so on ac...
As far as the extra turn restricting air, I'm sure it does but whether the difference is significant is purely speculative. This question has been out there quite some time, hasn't been answered with any degree of science that I know of

I started thinking about how to enclose my k and n cai ... There's got to be a better solution than the paint can...can't do a snorkel til I figure this out. Either that or buy a Volant...

Then I put the template in place. I got it positioned the way I wanted it. Didn't really takealot of measurements just got it to contour to the fender and A pillar well. Also, make sure the door opens and shuts correctly. Then mark your holes.

Why is this in 2 pieces? Or did I miss something? Mine was one solid part. Mine didn't come with a template

Based on the above statements, do I need to request the template or is it NO longer supplied at all? I'm about to pull the trigger on this.

If you are referring to the snorkel FF X purchased then yes it comes with a template. The half piece in his pics that looks like half a snorkel is the template. I have the same one and it comes with that half snorkel template and a full one piece actual snorkel as well.

Cool...by getting this and combining it with a part of Ricel's DIY snorkel and the right K&N filter, everything should fit together nicely.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping too. I'm just a little nervous about drilling the holes in the fender and them not lining up.

Gotta have FAITH. That and the ability to adapt on the fly doesn't hurt either...lol. I figure it all depends on where the main fender hole is in relation to the inner fender. Wheather there's enough room for a 90 degree hard PVC elbow or a rubber connection.

think im using a hose instead of the 90 just seems like it might work better.
That might be what I do. Gonna stop by the parts store on the way home and see what they have. Gonna have to do my plugs and wires before I finish the snorkel on Wednesday. Starting to get a little skip.

FWIW...I think the fiberglass snork comes with a template, but the more expensive AC poly-whatever one may not? At least Dave's version of the poly-whatever one didn't have one...so Greg, check and make sure if you're ordering the AC version and not the fiberglass one...
