Starting to look into getting a snorkel but $400+ is too much for me to spend right now on a pice of plastic... Anyone have a used snorkel that will fit my 2000 X?
(I'm thinking something like the one for sale from Automotive Customizers)

Well I don't like the look of a lot of the DIY snorkels, they just don't look at all professional... I'm actually thinking about running a snorkel up behind the air dam on the roof, but I would like to at least use a professionally made base (just to make it look good).

I have put a snorkel on yes... Was it fun... blaaa... Do I love it? YES! Its looks awesome..
Im the same way about looks.. I know they DIY snorkel does the same thing.. But I like my stuff to look as factory as possible..

Now if you were going to buy one here are a few things to look for... The safari snorkel is the best flowing one out there... One bend and its right in the air box..
This is great for maximum air flow to the box. The issue with that.. The Safari snorkel is made for the Navara 3.0 diesel motor. This is a AU version of the Frontier..
The Frontier has no hump in the fenders... The Xterra does..

This fender hump has caused this brand of snorkel to be a PITA! You really have to measure and measure before drilling out a 3" hole in the fender..
I have seem many people fuss about how this snorkel will not fit up right on out air box too...
Thats because this snorkel was made for something else, and happens to fit the Xterra.. On a scale of 1-10 this is a 9 on the mod rating..

AC offers one other snorkel that is a much better install, but has one extra bend in the piping. So to me its messing up the air flow or slowing the flow..
ITs about 30$ cheaper too..
For me I wanted improved air flow and performance and this did just that.. It looks sweet, and I have people ask me about it all the time.
I have gained 1 mpg since adding it too..

See when I do mine, I plan to use the flexible pipe.. So I have easy curves instead of bends.. Props to Oz on that one

Yeah the Navara ones do kinda fit funky but do fit in the end. There is a ton on ebay from different brands right now at reasonable prices though I've never seen anyone experement with their fitment. At the worst hold up to the fender don't look like it will fit, list it for sale in frontier forums.

My dream snorkle would be the OEM factory Nissan one for the Navara that thing is sexy with the smooth curves and Nissan logos. But, the price makes the AC ones look like a bargin.

I'd have to agree with dae. The look of a professional snorkel kicks the DIY's tuckus... But for the price of a good 12 pack you could test out your skills.

I took my time, had some help bay great guy (Dave P) and a long afternoon. Not for everyone but it came out pretty good.

Need to order a safari top and it should be a little more 'professional'

Dave are you running the stock airbox, or did you upgrade to the Volant? I can't remember. If you have the Volant, how did you adapt the snorkel to it? This is my biggest issue with buying a snorkel.

I did have it ran into the stock air box.. But yes Im running a Volant box now.. Its not finished.. I have a plate Im going to make for it but I have too many fires burning right now and havent had time to get to it.. Im also about to bed line the Xterra so Ill have to pull the snorkel off to paint.. So thats when Im planning on
finishing it.

Now I'm finding a lot of used snorkels but they all say "For Diesel Only"... Is that true to form? Or is that just total bs and a way for companies to hype up prices by having a diesel and petrol version?

I would say it would.. But ya never know.. Window angle would be the key.. Either way yours going to need and mod it to your airbox

You know what looks the best? 300+ bucks in your wallet after you finish your DIY snorkel and a 12 pack...
I actually like the DIY exit point better. Done right it looks great. My 2c.

Paladin uses Frontier fenders, Frontier fenders are Navara fenders. But, I know what your talking about. Used to be many on ebay as well as low priced fiberglass versions which appear to be carbon copies of the tjm. The plastic ones are harder to find but are out there.

I have to say, I agree with Civicjoe, the SnOz (Oz DIY snork) is simple and I like it a lot better than the overpriced plastic ones that don't even fit our rigs all that well. I've said this before, but as soon as I figure out a way to close up my KnN ram, I'm going that route
