Hey guys, I'm on a new hunt for wheels. I want to run bigger tires, but can't fit anything bigger on my current wheels due to the extreme lack of backspacing. My 31x10.5r15's still rub pretty good, and it's because of the rims because they stick out too far.

Aftermarket steel wheels are just too dang pricey.

I want your OEM spare steel wheels!

Local pickup preferred, I'm in Western Massachusetts, and would travel to VT, NH, CT or Eastern NY state if I had to. I don't want to ship these, unless the price is right...

My goal is a full set of 5 OEM spare steel wheels.

Lemme know what you got! I don't expect to get all 5 from one person obviously.

I haven't found anything that cheap.

Well, I actually found a bunch on Amazon, but they don't list backspacing and most of them have like, 1 in stock, 3 in stock, etc.

I've got those skinnies if you want them. Or are you looking for 16s?

15's but I thought more about those, I think 6" is a little too narrow, it's actually under the recommended minimum for even a 10.5" wide tire.

If I can get a set of 5"-5.5" BS'd wheels, I'd be more likely to run an 11.5" wide tire.

If you decide to go the steely route, you can have my spare if you pay shipping (~$20). I still have the box from the last 15" wheel that I ordered, I can use that to ship it to you. If you have someone nearby that is going to Moab next week, I can also hand it off to them.

I'll keep this in mind, thank you!

If you are willing to consider 16's I have a set of stock (5) that I could be talked out of.

I'd consider 16's...actually, it seems I can get a few more size options in 16's than I can 15's, so I'm sort of leaning that route.

Do you mean "stock" as in they came stock on your X? Which wheels are they?

Church,

Did you see my post about car-part.com? Lots of steel 15" and 16" wheels there near you.

Aah yes, I did. At the time I didn't have enough time to look around but meant to come back to it; and between then and now I had forgotten about it.

Thanks for the reminder!

I guess I should bring this question to light...

Are steel wheels that were intended for use as spares sturdy enough and safe enough for daily use? I mean, yeah they're steel wheels, and they're designed for the truck and all that, but are they designed for many tens of thousands of miles? If I put together a set of 5 OEM spares, they'll be the last wheels I buy and I want to make sure they last, and safely.

Otherwise I found a good deal on some 16x8's with 5" backspacing, matte black. Full set of 5, brand new, shipped for $400.

Yes they will be fine for everyday use and abuse, they are not a temporary spare like a lot of cars come with, it was just a more in expensive wheel that nissan used seeing as it was under the truck

Mine is 16" and I have a 33" tire mounted on it and have had to put it on, on the trail... They are plenty sturdy mine held up great with beating on it Offroad

Cool, thanks for the info and offers, guys. I'm still weighing the options. I've still got a little while to source/buy spares if I go that route. My inspection is due at the end of July, but I'd like to get my wheels and tires said and done before then.

I guess the only things holding me back are:

1) Stock backspacing is 5 1/2", the wheels I'm looking at are 5". Just barely enough of a difference to spread the footprint out a little bit for a different stance but not wide enough to cause rubbing with slightly larger tires.

2) Used/14 year old - 9 year old steel wheels may not be the prettiest of the bunch and would likely need a good layer of paint, which is fine, but it's not something I would likely have a whole lot of time for.

I know RockAuto has the spare steelies recon'd for 74 bucks a piece. I think thats the cheapest price around for them at the moment.

Dang it, how did I totally forget to look there? Thanks for the suggestion.

However...

About 45 minutes ago I pulled the trigger on some 16x8 Black Rock rims from Summit, came to $78 each. 5 rims, shipped, for $412. Not too shabby.

Mods, go ahead and lock this down, the hunt is over. :)

And yes, that IS the cheapest I've seen for steel spare rims. All the reproduction ones I was finding were $110+! Each! For a plain steel rim! Outrageous. 4 spoke and 5 spoke reproduction alloys were $230+, I wonder what they'd get for a reproduction Nismo rim...
