VAXC's 1st Annual "Wheel Away Winter" Event

(posted this in the VAXC part, but what the hey, let everyone see!)

:bmmd: I am pleased to announce this will now be an annual event :bmmd:


This will be the 1st of course - what better way to really get the VAXC back on it's feet and rolling again then to hold an event to bring in Spring?
When: Friday March 28th - Sunday March 30th.
(preivous dates were 3/21 - 3/23)

yeah, a few people had last min stuff come up and couldn't make it. Also worked better for a few other people to move it back.

Hoping to have a good turn out, I mean it's right when it starts getting warm out. A couple of us are going to go about two weeks ahead of time to gather firewood. A few people are even going the original weekend (already took work off and such) and will be leaving markings for good camping.

So from facebook and "that other site" we have 4 confirmed attendees and 10 maybes.

Hopefully as we get a little closer more people can confirm.

Also looking to have this be an annual thing, so some more news and updates will be coming about shortly.

If I can make this work, I'm gonna head out after work Friday. It's a 3.5hr drive for me to Harrisonburg. So I'd be out there late.

Maybe better to grab a hotel Friday night and meet up Saturday morning? Or would there be a good place to catch everyone on Friday?

Righ now there are 3 of us headed up on Friday night. One person (from tnx) is coming up from SC with 4 people. I am going to be cutting out of work early on Friday and riding up with Mitch, he is coming from VB. I plan on having a good big fire going so people can see where we are. I was told (by a group that recently went up) it might be hard to meet up on the trail. When I get a chance later I am going to pin an official "Meet here, be on Chan 'X' " to make things easier.

Yeah. Meet on the trail is kind of vague. Especially up there. We used to meet up at this gas station on 33 just outside of town years ago. Hell, I don't even know if it's still there.

One of the guys posted up over at the FB page about their weekend. Said that the clearing where we wanted to camp is amazing, great view and everything. But a cold wind picked up around 3am that made them move camp. They would a nice clearing by a stream down the trail a bit.

I was thinking - people could be showing up at different times and all. Let me talk to sno and see when he thinks he will make it there. Kinda depends on when everyone can get there. If I can, I don't mind marking a site and then doubling back to a meet up spot and waiting for people. I would rather set up a site in limited light then lose people on the trail any day.

Yeah, sooo - I need to work on that part. I was going to try and set up some lighting on the MX, figured out I don't know how to do the wiring and such.

Right now myself and sno are going to be meeting at a Food Lion in Harrsionburg around 3ish. It's about 30 mins from the trail head if I read the map right.

I would have to double check, but I don't think we will be to far. Mind you - I am a little new to that area. We will be abt 30-45 mins westish of Harrisonburg.

Another Update: Meet up location
There is a 7-11 not too far from the trail/ridge. For those not in a caravan of sorts, plan to all meet between 4 to 4:30 there.
