I was wondering if any of you tow a travel trailer with your X? If so, what model trailer is it and what length and max empty and loaded weight is it? And can you share pics of it?

I am considering getting a travel trailer (lite) and am aware that the max safe length is about ~21' and max empty weight is ~4,300lbs. So those are the parameters I am using in my search. I found this link on TNX about it, too: http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75609

What mods did you do to your X to make it better/safer to tow? How does the X handle when towing?

for me, I upgraded the leaf pack, ( went with the OME Dakar leafs), IMS, superchip tuner and using a weight distribution hitch and break controller.
I am thinking about upgrading the side mirrors as listed on TNX (http://www.thenewx.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79946[/URL]). The x has enough power to tow, just sucks back on fuel, to the point that I get between 6 and 9 MPG when I am towing. Keeping the OD off and maintaining a 90KM/H speed ( 55 MPH) is where the RPM's stay low enough to to give me a bit better of a better MPG

"weight distribution hitch" that is key i think with any camp trailer, seems to make a big difference to the people i talk with who are towing

^I agree!
I do not plan to tow too much. More or less park it and tow it to empty it, haha!

I have an aftermarket bumper with a custim hitch. I will have to look into the distribution hitch you mention.
I was also thinking a lower gearing might be a good idea, too. But I guess it can wait on the other mods- tranny cooler/fan, etc.

WRT moving it to empty the grey/black water tank they have portable holding tanks similar to this:

that will make your life a lot simpler cause you don't need to tear everything down and have to re-level your camper when your done.
also I am still running stock gearing. I am also looking into getting an aftermarket bumper, ( so far pretty sold on a maxterra with tire carrier) so I am interested to her from people who have an aftermarket bumper when it comes to towing with weight distribution hitches

^Thanks for the info!

I will look into the distribution hitches here soon since I will be pulling a uhaul from MN back to ID in May. Yeah, not looking forward to the Butt, MT part of that journey...
I have also heard Maxterra bumpers are pretty much the best. I met the guy. He knows his stuff and puts a lot of time and quality work into his bumpers. And such a nice guy, too.

I've heard the same and I've also already been in contact with him to get the broshure. now to I just need to wait for the tax return or another military deployment ( what ever comes first lol) to get some $$$
