The 7.3 wasn’t that great and I’m tired of pretending it was
None of them were. But the biggest problem with a Cummins is it was wrapped in a Dodge. The biggest issues with the 6.5 Detroit was it wasn't an industrial diesel adapted to a pickup, it was a pickup diesel and no one treated it that way.

But here we are....

We should have stuck with the 6.2L Detroit, the 6.9IDI, and the 6B....

IMO, and I would die on the hill, the best diesel truck I have ever used was an 06 duramax.

I swear its the perfect truck. Not the later duramax, but that one.

The 7.3 in top trim made I believe 210/220

High pressure oil to fire injectors is problematic, injectors get clogged, oil shears horribly in the system, you have to keep a cam positioning sensor in the glove box at all times, cause it shiats that frequently, it’s a good thing they usually last pretty good block wise cause they aren’t sleeved, it’s a bored 6.9 and there isn’t enough material to bore it again so once it’s done it’s done.

New diesels are way better than the antique ones.

The 6.7 psd and 6.7 Cummins both will easily run as long as the oldies with way better power, and less problems, they’re just expensive to buy and if they ufck up

when I had my ecoboost f150 I towed a guy that had a 5.7 tundra, and we were discussing trucks, got to mpg, told him what I got, he told me what he got, "damn, maybe a little carbon on the valves ain't that big a deal"

on a more positive note, learning big red is starting to go a little smoother, I dislike vulcan (still a miller industries company) winch free spool control, its frustrating) but the under reach is starting to click more and swinging corners in a truck thats a good 4' longer than what I'm used to is starting to become 2nd nature, truck is very intuitive in terms of what it should do vs. your mindset, you just have to trust it.

the 605hp is nice vs the 485 and it rides nicer than the 25 ton

and nearly 200 gallons of fuel doesn't hurt on long hauls, more music, less looking for truck stops
