Maybe you didn't grind enough of the gear case away? Not enough clearance? There will be some whine as the gears are straight cut. Much like reverse gear makes some noise.

I'd pull it down and inspect it. Make sure the bearings are ok. The little bearing that comes with the kit can often be difficult to seat properly into that retainer they give you. (Calmini kit no experience with the 4x4parts kit.)

The Calmini gears are quite a bit louder than stock in 4 low. 8 years going now

Nice... I'm a few weeks away from installing my AC T-case gears. Have you been happy with them over the years? Also, what is the top speed that you're comfortable running them in 4lo?

I think I saw your rig in Moab this year, was yours the red first gen parked near the entrance at Spanish Trails Arena?

Yes mine was parked at the entrance.

When off road, I don't look at the speedo. I just keep the RPMs under 4000 in 5th before I decide to stop and take it out of 4 lo. I close to top speed in 2 high.

I've been running the AC T-case gears for about 5 months now and they are the best mod I have done to the X (and I've done quite a bit); you'll love them. The whine is pretty intense over about 15 mph and the faster you go the more it feels like the T-case is going to explode. I keep it under about 15-20 mph for that reason. It from idle to about 5 mph that these gears shine!
