Steering pump or Box goin?

Ok so lately my steering on my Xterra has been sketchy. When I turn the steering wheel while moving with no gas being applied, I can feel in the steering wheel that it like creaks and and shudders like the power steering is going out (no noise, just feel). When I apply a little gas and get the rpms up a little it goes away. I've also noticed on some cold days when the car is creeping in reverse or drive in the driveway, the power steering is like gone and the wheel is hard to turn. But then kicks in when I give the engine gas. What do you think is going on here? Do I need to rebuild the box or new pump or what? And any links to how to's would help me greatly!!! I did recently replace all the steering parts like new centerlink, tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm brace, replaced idler arm bushings with those from 4x4bandit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Honestly, sounds like low fluid. Have you checked the fluid level? If the level is good it sounds like the pump.

I put Lucas power steering fluid in mine and it defiantly seamed to help my steering system. Made it quieter and stopped the small leak around the output shaft.
