While I was out doing last minute Christmas shopping I got my SES light diagnosed, P1126. I had this code after wheeling it at coal creek but it went off 3 days later, that was in late October. This time, it has been on for 2 weeks.

Can anyone shine some light on this error code? What are the parts is it referring to?

Thanks civicjoe! The description before was very confusing, I had no idea it was cooling-system related. Now that you have clarified it, I have noticed that the truck has been running cooler than usual. I will be replacing the thermostat and see if it clears up. Thanks again!

I got a new thermostat, just waiting for clear skies to install it. I will update this thread whether it solved the issue or not.

Ok, I installed the thermostat today. After the replacement I started it up and ran it for a while, it seems the temperature needle is back to where it was originally. The heater also feels hotter.

I have a question about the ECU though, should I reset it or let the error code reset itself?

I did disconnect the battery before I started but the SES light was still on when I connected it again. Ill just wait a few days to see what happens.

The old thermostat didn't look broken, but it did look like it needed to be replaced.

Good idea civicjoe, however, in MS it is unlawful for autozone to reset a SES light. I don't know why, but they tell me that every time (different people, same answer), even though the state does not have emissions testing. California does emissions testing but you could get your SES light reset at autozone out there. I will just give it a couple days and see if it turns off by itself. If the thermostat does not fix it then my next target will be probing the ECU's temp sensor with a multimeter to check for continuity/corrosion.

I have noticed a drop in MPG's since the SES light came on. Down from 245 miles/tank in town to 218 miles/tank in town.

I thought the same thing, but didn't want to argue the point. IMO it wasn't worth the hassle of going into a debate. No one deserves to have their day ruined for $8 an hour.

Update: SOLVED! SES light went off yesterday. I was also having an issue where, if I'm going down the road at about 40 MPH and let off the gas it would lurch, and the same would happen if I would accelerate. Almost as if the truck could not "coast", that issue was fixed also with the thermostat. I believe it had to do with the motor not reaching the correct operating temp.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice, I appreciate it!
