Snow Drivers - Volunteers during storms?

So it looks like we are going to be getting another blast of winter in the next few days.

We had a few guys post up on the Facebook page about helping out at local hospitals, getting staff back and forth during the storm. I know we all want to get in and help out when we can so I am posting up here to see if anyone plans on getting in on the action.

Looks like it is a strictly volunteer thing. You can go to or reach out local hospitals, reach out to the police stations, or watch for a bulletin to come up on the news. Places are looking for volunteers to help out during inclement weather. As far as I know this goes from Hospital staff to pizza delivery.

I know in Richmond you can call 804-287-SNOW(7669) to find out if St. Marys needs help.

you can also check http://www.ushospitalfinder.com/ to see if they have put up a banner or alert asking for volunteers.

If anyone hears anything, please feel free to post up here so we can see if others nearby can help out.

Let's do our community a solid!

A good point was brought up by Stephen (sNo) regarding helping out during storms.

Please be aware of the risk when helping others be get "un-stuck" or winched out. As much as we want to help out and be there for the community, we do live in a sue happy world. Never put yourself in a situation where you could hurt yourself, the other person, or damage each other's vehicles. We all assume a certain amount of risk when either transporting people or recovering them. Ensure that the person understands the risk and that you are acting as a good Samaritan. This won't protect you from risk, however it may help you avoid being put into a situation where your good deed bites back.

Always assume positive intent, but also make sure you are reading the situation safely.

We should have some sort of liability waiver. There's some free ones online but I've been unable to find anything decent - although I only looked for like a moment lol.

Hmm, good point. We actually can leverage Meredith on this one - she works for an Insurance company. From what I understand some of those waivers you can download online don't hold up in court because of the verbiage. Basically a good lawyer can eat them up and throw it right back at you, which leaves it up to the judge of course. But if you are looking, man download a few and hit up the VAXC mail box with them. We can have one of the people she works with look over them and see if they will hold up.

Good call Cal, thanks for that!

Honestly speaking, for future use Josh, just something for you to tuck away for a few months, the club should have all members have one of these on file anyways in order to protect it from any negative event. Everyone is good people but tempers flare when **** gets broke on the trail. You never know what someone might do. Especially on VAXC offficially sanctioned events. Even convoys. Maybe not something you need soon, or even this year, but something to consider.
