Side rail thread holes damaged

Hello. I am looking for advice on how to re-attach a factory/stock side rail onto my vehicle. Some of the thread holes have been detached from the rail tube due to apparent blunt force. I purchased my 2012 S from a private party in this condition - very recently.
(My first Xterra.) Attached a picture of the damaged thread holes.

I’m considering using a toggle bolt and wing nut set, which can easily slip into the damaged rail screw holes from the outside. (Would need to swap the bolt with a stainless steel one though.) But thought I’d check how others have addressed such an issue.

"Others" have either left them off or taken them off. They offer zero protection when out on the trails.

If you're dead set on keeping them (for convenience only) then it looks like a toggle or the larger strap toggle might work.

Need Bigger Tires
Ive got the factory steps on mine, and the only time Ive ever uses them is to get at stuff on the roof, they havent been too overly handy as steps to get into the vehicle.

That being said, the only reason I have them is because they came on when I bought it, I havent had the time or garage space to take them off, and I havent been offroading. I have rock sliders made that just need to be installed, and I will likely weld them on when I get around to it.
