Resignator

I had made a post earlier now I can't locate it. I have read about removing the resignator. What exactly is that?

Resonators....the part of the intake that has a lot of baffles, etc.

It allows a freer intake path. (The resonators are there to make the intake SOUND a certain way: To resonate). Removing them changes the sound, but, the air now goes in a straighter, less tortured path into the engine.

Its sometimes called a resonator delete mod, etc.

How hard is it to do and does it make any real difference. I'm more for functionality then looks. The "cares about looks" died with my lowered s10

LOL

No look changes, as it's under the hood and behind a fender. Some black plastic tubing is missing....that's about it.

An invisible mod.

I have no data on dyno gains, etc...but, it doesn't seem to hurt anything, and, it does make a more direct route for air intake.

Its pretty easy to do, minutes not hours.

There is another two resonators under the hood. One come off of the intake pipe between the mass air meter and the throttle body. That one can be removed and plugged using a 2" expansion plug like this.

Available from Home Depot / Lowes.

The other is on the air box and has the ambient air temp sensor in it. Remove that entire piece, pop the sensor out, and then use a 2.5" glue on pvc end cap shoved in the hole and silicone it in place. Then drill a half inch hole in the end of the cap and fit the temp sensor there. Combined with the removal of the fender resonator, that's as close as a cold air kit you can get for less than $20. Plus, you'll need to do this anyway in order to properly seal for the snorkel.

I wound up using a 1 1/2 threaded plug on the intake tube with a hose clamp around that and it worked really well.
