Rear squeak

I've got a noticeable squeak in the rear of my Xterra. I'm about 90% sure it's from my shackles or leaves, the shackles are being replaced this weekend so if that's the issue it'll be fixed.

Say I wasn't replacing them, for the sake of other owners, would it be an issue I could fix with some grease or oil? Or is this an issue where replacement is the only fix? I know that the second gen rear leaves have a history of going flat, especially with a little help from added weight.

What you can do, is grease or oil the shackles now.

If the noise goes away by the weekend, that answers your question.

If it doesnt, theres your second answer.

That's not a bad idea. Would spraying pb blaster have anything to do with it? I don't think it would because the squeaking has been there longer than I've been using it.

I'm too lazy to look into your build thread, but do you have stock shocks still?

Yessir, and approaching 50k miles. It'll be on the docket, but funds will be the part holding me back.

I'll definitely post whatever the culprit winds up being for future reference. I'll get an extra set of eyes and ears on it in a few days as well.

I would pressure washer the leafs and shackles. Ensure all the dirt is out of them. The I would use some spray lube to see if it stops. PB blaster is just a better form of WD-40. It actually breaks down oil and grease. Thats why it never works for a long term cure on door hinges that squeek. Graphite spray lube is greate but does not last forever. It could be other things to. Everytime I gett squeeks in the rear I pressure wash my leafs then lube them up. Also make sure when you install your new ones you lube up the shackles/leaf bushiings. I used marine grade anti seize. I use this stuff on everything.

The squeak I have is a very deep sounding squeak if that makes sense. It sounds like an old creaky door in a scary movie lol I cant figure out where its coming from.

It's like an old ship creaking/groaning?

I get some of the over speed bumps but I stopped worrying about it it just sounds like an old squeaky truck which honestly is what it is. But if an answer does show up I'd be interested in doing it

Well, I just went to the local car wash and high pressured spray the packs and leaves and anything that may have caused a creak. It did temporarily stop it, so if it was just dirty or something, that'd make me happy.

No more squeak for me! Hopefully it lasts. I sprayed the leaf pack with the pressure washer for about 10 minutes and loaded it down with wd-40.
