I want to drain and fill trans fluid on my 2002 and am wondering if there is a write up. Also I am wondering if the drain plug needs a washer or anything?

I believe they is a crush washer on it, but I've never swapped it.

As for the procedure: warm the tranny slightly (makes oil flow better) then drain into a measurable container. Close the drain and put that much new fluid back in. Drive for a few days and repeat.

Be prepared with the full capacity, but I would only expect 5 qts to come out. Our trannies call for Matic D, but there are several aftermarket fluids that list compatibility with it. If Matic D is not on the bottle, don't use it.

Okay. Thanks guys. So I will be fine to keep the same crush washer?

Matter of opinion really. My take on it is that a crush washer has been "crushed" once it's been used, therefore it's time for a new one. However, most people report no leaks re-using them, so if you can not obtain a new one, go for it. If it were me, I'd get a new one just to be on the cautious side and avoid leaks. I definitely would not continue re-using them after more than a few uses.

Also, use a torque wrench to seat the drain and fill plugs. On my 2nd gen it's 26 ft-lbs or so, I'm not sure of the 1st gen, but it should be about the same. Those washers are made to crush at that torque, and the main reason is to prevent over tightening them. And that would be no fun to strip a drain plug.
