Question for guys with rear carriers?

I'm contemplating on getting a rear carrier, probably Hefty or Maxterra.

I was wondering how the rear visibility is with STOCK tire is? I won't be getting bigger tires for quite a while but wondered how the view was back there with spare tire on? I've looked at tons of pics and it doesn't seem too bad with the stock tire though but wanted to ask if you guys are happy with it or wished you never got one and went a different route mounting tire somewhere?

Thanks

Yes, but I'm talking about looking through the view from rearview mirror or when double checking before backing up....don't always rely on the camera for everything. Plus I don't use the camera when driving forward....

It is inhibited but you can still see using the rear view and side mirrors. Its an adjustment but manageable.

There is some blockage... yes. However, it really depends on the placement of the tire carrier. I put mine 17" up from the bumper allowing for a 35" tire (35" tire / 2). Also how you sit seat back leaning or straight up.

That's what I've thought.

Maybe I can talk to Dave at maxterra and see if he can lower it by 6" or so?

I've got a Bucksnort with H2 carrier and a 33" tire, and thought that it might annoy me, but you get used to it. The only time I didn't know there was a car behind me at a stop light was when it was a Ferrari. Get a backup camera and you won't have any issues though.

If you can keep it under the truck it is the best option, but as for actually being able to see out of my back window,,, well lets just say that I have not worried about that for years and years. After driving trucks and vans for years you get used to using the side mirrors, the only time I look at the one on the windshield is when I look in the back seat to see what my kids are doing, or want to know the outside temp.

So, this will probably be a really dumb question. If your running a stock size tire (or even up to a 33ish tire) why move it out from under the rig? It's perfectly fine under there.
Now yes, I know the first thing people will say is "You can't get it out from under the truck in certain situations" Well, in 30+ years of offroading I have NEVER come across that situation, and if I actually did, I would winch/drag the rig until I could get to the tire.

So I ask, why move it, leave it where it is and be happy. Better for weight distribution, better for the tire, and no cost. Though if you want to look cool, then a rear tire carrier is really needed (that is why I had one. Not being sarcastic, I truly wanted one because it made the X look bad-a$$)

Cheers,
JP

Well, I would like to install a air tank in that compartment where the spare tire is at, and of course some train horns since there really isn't available spot anywhere in the Xterra (and I don't want to mount the air stuff inside) and I won't mount the air tank in the front because if it gets bumped, well its easily totaled from that.

So, in order to do that, the tire has to go somewhere unless there's a better spot that I'm just not seeing underneath the X?
