Powertrax Rear Lock Right Locker Nissan H233b 4 pinion Carrier PT 3220

Could someone tell me a little about this locker? My buddy has one and he's willing to send it to me for a good price.

It's a Powertrax Rear Lock Right Locker Nissan H233b 4 pinion Carrier PT 3220.

Few questions:
-is it always engaged? if so, pros and cons?
-if always engaged, how well does it do when turning, etc..
-anything I should be aware of with this?

Do you have a 4 pinion carrier diff?

My door panel says I have a HG49 Axle. Which means... my gear ratio is 4.90. Been doing some research, looks like I have a H233 axle. Now I just need to figure out if I have an open or limited slip diff. I don't have a sticker on it, and some people are saying that if you don't hvae a sticker then it's most likely an open diff. But I'm going to stop by a shop tomorrow after work and see if they can jack up my rear end and spin my rear tires by hand to see if the opposite tire either spins the same way or goes the opposite.

If when I spin it, and the opposite tire goes the same way... it's an open diff, correct?

If I spin it and the other tire goes the other way, it's Limited slip?

That's correct . The open diff will have the tires spinning opposite direction. And rotate the same way with limited slip. However I believe all the 33 spline open carriers in the US are single piece/ 2 pinion.

yea, Schmidt you're almost right, you got them backwards.

Do any Xs come from the factory with LSD? I thought they were all Open diff.

interesting, I'm pretty sure mine is open diff, but I'm curious to find out. I'm just too lazy to jack it up and play with the tires. It's a '12 anyways, I don't think the rear axles are the same... I really need to do more research on this before my foot goes flying up into my mouth.

Mine came as a limited slip. Big orange sticker on the pumpkin says so.

So, assuming the sticker would be missing on an 18-year-old Xterra with a very rusty diff thanks to our salty winter roads, is the ONLY way to tell if an X has an LSD to jack it up and spin the wheels? There's nothing on the data tag to denote it? Is it possible to get the original build data or the VIN from NISSAN?
