Possible CV issue

Driving back from a run yesterday and all of a sudden on the highway, a large clicking noise kicked off. Had to drive no faster than 30 miles an hour. Thinking it might be my cv. Not sure.

If I have auto hubs, they should disconnect from the CV shaft when they disengage so it shouldn't be turning right?

Stops clicking in 4h when power is applied. Once I let off the gas, the clicking starts again...

I had this exact problem over the summer. Went under and saw my CV boot had been torn and filled with all kinds of gunk and mud so I replaced it and repacked/greased my hubs and bearings and everything has been good since.

Take the ends off of your hubs and go for a short drive, if it is a bad hub there will be no noise. If you still have noise than it is a cv. You should be able to determine really quickly what the exact problem is.

Nood to CV's question:

Do the CV's(joint & axle) go bad due to age? I know the boot can wear causing interior problems. I'm trying to find out will this assembly have to be replaced eventually or will cleaning it periodically keep it in good shape.

Also, if it does need replacing, is there a beefier version sold (IE. AC's version)?

There is not a beefier version of the axles themselves, as long as the boots are intact the cv's last for ever. The problem is when they get a hole in the boot and get contaminated, or when they get bound up under load at an extreem angle. But for the most part they are pretty robust.

And you can get them for about 65-70 bucks with a lifetime warrenty, or trail spares for a lot less. They are also easy tore build if you catch a torn boot pretty early on.

I have a nice clicking going on in the driver side.. I know I have a torn boot.. So from what Ive been told once they start the clicking they are toast.. Just a few parts I need to keep the X on the trails

What and where? I'm seeing $95-$100 for the CV and $20-$30 for the boot. I like "LIFETIME WARRENTIES"!!!

I get almost all of my parts from advanced, and not just because I can get parts dropped off at my house if need be.
even though they did not have one on the shelf, it was in the store the next day.

I've gotten most of my parts from Autozone just cause they're the closest and give a lifetime warrenty as well. But in this case they were higher than O'Reilly.
