Hey all,

My Xterra has been seeming a little sluggish lately or at least that's my perception. Anyway, it doesn't have much get up and go and I'm only getting about 14-15 mpg. Thoughts?

OK, little more time for a proper response...

This engine is not known for its get up and go, and depending on mods, 14-15 is not unheard of. Mine is mostly stock and gets mid 15 to low 16. What's the service history? how many miles? There's a lot we don't know to give you the right direction.

Sorry, I should've known. I just installed a new fuel filter last week, new plugs and wires all within the last year, I do need to replace the air filter as it has been two years since that was done. It has 206,000 miles. I know I may be expecting a bit more than I should but I've heard of these getting at least 19mpg

These trucks are bricks, O I wish I had a supercharger.... When I seen the title of this post I laughed a little. A first gen X with performance.....lol I installed a front bumper and winch and then lost about a 100 miles per tank of fuel. If you are looking for fuel economy get a leaf or a Prius.

Only other thing with that mileage would be the timing belt, as it's due every 100k. I don't know where you heard these can get 19, but that's a fantasy. They're a bit under powered for the highway, but have decent low end torque. A 2nd gen _might_ get 19 with a proper tune and decent enough tail wind. downhill. with no interior. And before you think about tuning the 3.3, it can be done but not with a simple OBD2 device like a Bully Dog.
