Just purchased a project camper it's the small teardrop style. I don't have pics yet but will post some later tonight or tomorrow probably.

Got it for $200 and plan on rebuilding it. Should be a fun project.

Yeah I just got to see it for the first time in person my dad went and picked it up on his roll back from Alabama. It was used as a hunting trailer years ago so it is painted rattle can green.

I took a quick look inside but it was dark but looks like no water damage so shouldn't be to much restore work on the inside. I have a buddy who paints cars so I am thinking of letting him do a custom paint job. Maybe yellow with black and ghosted flames to match the X.

It needs tires before I can tow it to store it but I will get some pics hopefully tomorrow if I can get the tires on it.

I looked online after I saw this thread and I can't find anything close to the deal you got.

My dad worked with the guys son. And had done some work for him. So the old man let him get it for cheap. I have been looking for a while and I couldn't find any either. Even though I was looking for one that needed work they were still in the $800 range.

I haven't even been able to find a teardrop that needed work. Everything is either finished for $$$$ or its a utility trailer.

y'know, you can buy the plans to build your own teardrop from scratch, and if memory serves once you get it all built, with the really decorative stuff it says it should only cost around $1200 total....and that's leaving room for you to fully customize...

I'd looked at it and decided to build it at some point, and, with me building it bigger (to fit the size of the X, and with offroad tires/axles with some flex so that it can be wheeled fairly easily up mountain trails and such.) even going the overboard route and putting a small squatbox inside it and putting a full liftgate on the rear for tool storage, and a decent sized steel reinforced lockbox for ammo/firearms in transit, it was going to be under $2K...and it's custom, and exactly what you want.

Big Thanks: looking forward to pics as soon as you get the chance....

I have seen those plans and I don't agree with the price. I mean sure you could cut extreme corners and have it but that price seems too low to me. I mean just a trailer for the base would be at least a few hundred and trailer tires alone are a little over $100 themselves. RV appliances for the rear kitchen would also be rather costly.

On a side note I plan on making mine my own anyway. I am going to modify the interior with storage and a radio system. Also I got a flip down DVD player that I am thinking of adding to the inside.

I am hoping to have pics this afternoon but its been raining here all morning and hasn't let up yet.

actually, if I recall correctly, the trailer frame it's using is only $150 with tires/wheels from Harbor Freight.

Appliances: I think their plans are just a "cooler" and a camp stove if memory serves, it isn't designed to be a fully loaded one (at least not the plans I was looking at)

I was putting a full fridge and stove inward facing and making it tall enough to stand up without being TOO hunched....making it considerably larger, putting a junkyard rear axle with leaf springs under it too....probably a custom frame under it and knowing that the frame job would cost a fair bit more...and believe it or not, going larger actually made it more cost efficient.

sounds like a plan....what all do you have in store for it?

Your idea might just be more cost efficient then fully loaded lol. I was thinking they used the small trailers I've seen at northerntool that are like $500...anyway Your ideas sound cool.

It has rained all day in Chattanooga, hopefully it will clear up for pics. I too am interested in this. Seems like a cool plan.....

Pics are posted below (next post)

I plan on stripping all the old garbage out. Then replacing light fixtures and wiring. I am also going to be painting it and I have been thinking of a few ideas with that (maybe bedlining the whole thing but I want a color not black) idk. I am going to set up the inside to be 2 small beds with a option to join and make one bed. That way it's 2 if I go with a buddy or brother or something and then I can make it one if I am camping with my Wife.

As for the rear hatch kitchen area I am going to try and salvage the stove and maybe just clean it up and paint it with oven paint to a black or something. The cabinets look solid still so just clean and maybe stain them. I will be replacing the mini fridge with a new one something energy efficient.

The rest is just small stuff like fixing paneling etc. and making it the way I want it.

Here is the outside it’s solid but needs paint for sure. If any one is good at photoshop I am looking for a paint scheme and maybe a graphic design for it.

If we've seen the same plans then yeah they use a harbor freight trailer and didn't plan for real appliances. The biggest issue I have was if you look at the harbor freight website the trailer tires get wonky above 50 MPH.

How high up were you planning on having yours sit?

Oh and update on the price I paid. My dad told me today when I went to pay him that the guy only charged him $150 instead of $200 since he had to drive the roll back all the way there.

So that's $50 more to spend on it lol.

I've been wanting to do one of those for a while... finding a good deal and a clean title can be a pain.

You did get the title right?

If your looking a for a name "The Toaster" might be a good one. Looks to be in real good shape. A very fun restoration project. Ive been eyeing the teardrop forums for years dreaming of making one. Should be a huge asset when camping. I'll definitely be scoping this thread out.

Thanks guys I think it will be fun. I got all the papers on it and everything so that's all good.

Now I just have to come up with ideas for what to do to it. I plan on drawing up some rough sketches and I will post them up here.

The wife and I are going to colab on what to do with it since we are the ones using it.
