Since most people are converting over to LED off road lighting; there is not as much of a need for high amp alts beyond a Quest one anymore. Usually the biggest draw someone has will be a winch(if they ever get one). Also need to change the power wire plus add a fuse so you do not ruin anything also running the higher amps.

Dual batteries, power inverters, water pumps, air compressors, just a few of the reasons I can think of.

Don't need a larger at for dual battery set. Deep cycle second battery is for use while not running. Every thing else listed can be done on stock at just fine. The exception will be if you are trying to run a bigger power inverter to run your house. I do not run a winch to pull myself out, use the compressor to air everyones tires up, take a shower, power my house with the inverter, & use all lights on the truck to light up the night for example. Just being realistic about how much wattage/amps being used at amy given time. I agree that you will use more if you have more equipment for overlanding/camping setup to warrant a Quest 125 amp just to cover the little bit the stock 80 amp would be taxed on. The taxing side would be winch, fridge, lights, DVD player for kids, gps, & charging phones. DC-1000W @ 12.5V=80amps. Your average dual battery setup handles that easy with the deep cycle second battery so you do not have to have the engine running and have ample power.

I need a high amp alternator so I can run a dedicated 6 ga charge wire to my trailer to run the fridge whilst enroute to my destination, that's the only reason Im interested...

With these, you don't really know how they got that rating.

For example "over 1,200 rpm" can mean 5,000 RPM, etc...as that IS over 1,200 rpm, and so forth.

The windings can be done such that a high MAX output is available, but out put at idle/low RPM can actually be REDUCED from stock, etc.

So, its a crap shoot.

I bought one of these maybe 10 years ago, and, it was a POS...so, I threw it into the garbage eventually. The electronics were shot, and the windings were not useful, etc...

not on the quest, as to the wires you always want to have better then stock even if the alternator is stock.

A "Big 3" wire upgrade never hurts, even if bone stock. Even your headlights get brighter.

:D
