My name is Tyler. I've been over here for a bit but I'm thinking about getting a new x so I thought I might be more active.

I'm in texarkana now.

So....

I have a 2wd 2004 with 160 k on the dash.
I'm considering a second gen x but I'm not sure what year to get.
Are there any differences really?

I'm considering a pro 4x 07-08.
Suggestions?

Welcome in officially ;)

On those year models the model is actually called offroad but it's the same idea as pro 4x. The difference is mainly locker and tires and yes it's a big difference compared to the base models, when referring to offroad use. If you do not offroad much and there is a good 4x4 s or x model for a considerably better price the price difference would be worth it to immediately mod the truck with things you would use more or just to buy better tires than the offroad comes with. Locker is great, but only if you use it.

What year / models have the lockers?
We have 300 acres about an hour from here, not much mountain climbing but lots of mud.

All the offroad editions and pro 4x versions have the m226 rear diff and locker. Not a ton changed over the years other than a face-lift in I believe 09..(could be wrong).. I just bought a 06 off road and am sooo happy I did.. Nothing wrong with a regular 4x4 but that rear locker is amazing. Also the m226 comes heard a little lower that the standard.

I saw the Pro-4X (w/locker) get through some stuff at nXm3 that I would have bet it wouldn't. So, I am truly impressed with the capabilities of a stock 4x.

Thanks guys! This time I plan on doing stuff quicker I just got tired of putting so much into a 2wd. Also racerx told me to sell when it started leaking oil :).

So a 2007-2008 offroad would be a significant upgrade from a 2wd 04 :)

You've probably seen this a bunch, but if you're buying an AT, so your dillagence on the tranny cooler. Bypass the internal and convert to Matic S

if i am not mistaken, the off road still comes with a locker..? could be wrong.

Welcome to XN. A lot of us came over from ClubX. Nice to have you here.

Same here. I love the way the site is laid out and not all those ads popping up making it a real slow site. This one is fast similar to a jeep forum I go on regularly to schedule rides for the summer. Yes I do ride with the jeep guys, not alot of xterras in this part of the land. In the 2 years of riding maybe I know 4-5 x's and only 100+ jeeps. I am the minority but there fun to ride and I get to show off the x. They actually like looking at different types of trucks. Maybe because their tired of seeing the same TJ, XJ, JKU etc... you know what I mean.
