So This isn't a new idea! But for some time I've been looking for a way to mount a shovel.. I really like the Expedition look but Im not in to having my things stolen or weather taking a toll on it.
Your going to need a few things.
1, Quick fist clamps
link to buy
2. A shovel Mine is 40"s long I got it at Home Depot years ago
3. Some bolts, Washers and lock nuts
How to pull the plastic off:
You will find 3 screws.. 1. for the cloth handle and 2 behind the first aid kit
Un-screw these first.
Next the plastic pops off.. I used a long flat head screw driver and poped it off..
Next test fit your shovel I put the Quick Fist on the shovel and placed it where I though it would work
After you get a basic idea where the Quick Fist will work best for your shovel,Use a straight edge to line up where you want to drill the holes. I mark with a dot.
Next drill out your holes. I used a pack of screws from Home Depot #10-24 x 1-1/2" so drill accordingly.
Next place screw in the Quick Fists and in to the newly drilled holes.
I used 2 different sized washers here.. I wanted the biggest I could find on touching the plastic. I ended up using a 3/4" washer and 1/2" This is so one doesnt rip the plastic up after many uses. And it will give you the best support.
Then I applied the small washer and lock washer and nuts.
Now your ready to re-apply the plastic.. If you look in this picture
A few of the plastic orange and yellow snaps stayed with the truck when I pulled the plastic off.
You will need to pop these out of the Xterra. I used a flat head screw driver.
Once out these slide into the plastic panel. Line up your holes and push the plastic panel back on to the Xterra. Re-apply the three screws.
Apply shovel to the mounts and done! This took me 30mins total!
I hope most dont have a messy Xterra but this is what it looks like with the door shut
UPDATED pix..
Total for this with out the Shovel was 14$
