I bought a 2013 Xterra Pro-4X a few months ago that had about 136k miles it. It was a PIA to find one at a "reasonable" price. Ran into dealers trying to get $25k+ for 2013-2015's with 100k+ miles. Seemed crazy to me. Always liked the look and size of the Xterra. I wanted something for a "bug out" rig in the event shiat hits the fan. If all stays reasonably well in the world my plan is to traverse the forest roads of Arizona (and beyond) so I can see my state from a way more fun perspective than the asphalt freeways. I'm really not certain what sort of mods to consider but I think I'd like to keep it fairly stock. I did find a Curt front hitch on Craigslist for $30 which I mounted last week (my back got angry after having to muscle out a rusted bolt that held the tow hook) and planning to source a winch that I can mount to the rear or front receiver. I am looking to add fuel capacity so looking at options that integrate better than just throwing a couple Jerry Cans on the roof. I like to find deals on stuff and do my own work to both keep costs down and also to ensure I know how something was done.

Included a pic from a ride I took near Pine Valley in CA on Bear Valley Road on my way back to Phoenix from San Diego.

Need Bigger Tires
Welcome

For fuel, if you have the budget, I believe there was an Australian company that made a tank that fits where the spare tire is, was a bit pricy. I know of a couple other guys that diy in the same space as well.
