Help finding TDC on cylinder #1

I'm about to re-install the heads on my 3.3L and the FSM says that there should be some TDC alignment marks on the timing belt cog (on the crankshaft) and somewhere on the oil pump housing. I can see the mark on the cog but I can't find the other mark to save my life:

I was able to get pretty close to TDC by watching the piston rise in cylinder #1 but I'm not sure if I am getting close enough to set the heads on there:

Are the marks even needed if the pistons are exposed?

Nice... that will nail it.

Now that you mention it, a friend told me that he used an indicator through the spark plug hole once. Forgot about that one... thanks man.

Shameless plug for my badazz 3" travel indicator. I only use it once every few years but it makes me smile every time I get it out.

Giggity.
