Welcome from Chicagoland...check that Timing Belt!!!
Yeah the dealer said they changed it out when they got it, which was not to long ago. About the tires, the cheapo that sold it to me put some mesa ap2s on there which look like they could be put under a prius and no one would think twice.
Attached is a few pics of the "trail" in my backyard. The pictures dont do it justice but I'd say it's a solid 30 degree average incline for roughly 100 yards. The problem I had was that the ground had been frozen solid for a week up until the day before when it was approaching 60. It melted an inch or two of mud and to make it worse, it had just stopped raining so the first inch or two was soupy and nasty while anything under that was still frozen solid and slippery as anything.
So I started down the hill and quickly realized I was screwed (keep in mind i'm only 18 so offroad experience is minimal) so I start sliding down the first few feet and slide off the trail and im just feet from going into a creek where the X wouldve had its final resting place. I'm freaking out cuz there's a tree right in front of me and so I stick all the **** I can find under the tire thats off the edge, kick it in 4lo and thankfully I have just enough traction to get back on the trail. I get down to the bottom and grab all the wood, branches, carpet scraps we have and I make it back up about halfway.
Then I bring down our tractor and even that thing was fighting to gain traction on the crappy parts. After about 3 hours of freaking out/cursing profusely I pull that thing up to the top. Now I know to get it into 1st on a descent and make sure to keep the wheels spinning instead of locking up. Also I should've aired down those POS tires. I wish I had some action shots but I wasn't thinking very much haha.
